Will it come with a hdmi and optical cable, reason I ask is my birthday will be soon and I think I'm going to ask for a ps3... But I don't want to use it on a tv as I only have rubbish tv's at home, but I want to use it on my Iiyama ProLite E2407HDS 192x1080 screen and my Logitech Z5500's. Will I have any issues with this ? The mon has dvi, vga and hdmi inputs and a button to switch between em. The z5500's also have 3 inputs, coax, optial and analog, I currently use dvi and analog for my pc so that leaves hdmi and optical as the best options for the ps3 right ?

Anything else I should know before asking for it? I thought I'd ask for the ps3 + killzone 2 pack, then buy soul calibur 4, mgs4 and perhaps prologue 2nd hand...

if you buy it from your typical highstreet retailer, i don't think it comes with hdmi cable/optical cable

i think the typical box includes
-ps3
-controller
-power cable
-av cable
-usb cable
-euro av connector plug

so it leaves you with the option of purchasing a hdmi cable seperately to connect it to your monitor and just using the av cable for your z5500's

Got a 80GB PS3 last week and it only came with a composite cable. Had to buy a HDMI and optical cable seperate. :(

Just buy a cheap HDMI cable, no need to spend more than a couple of quid on one. I have £40 HDMI cable which I bought in 2006 and a £3 HDMI cable which I bought a few months ago, both do the same exact thing!

as said you will need to buy the HDMI and optical cables seperate, both can be picked up for a few quid on the bay. A poorly octopus (six quid) will get you the cables you need delivered. No need to spend more than thatunless your PS3 is gonna be miles away from your screen :)

Yes, I'm not debating that I'll be ordering the cheapest cables I can find as the ps3 is going to be less than half a meter from both my monitor and the z5500 control pod. Thanks though, bit of a shame, a 400€ console and not even the proper cables supplied :(.

The 360 never came with an HDMI cable either.

Although the Elite may have.

Nothin ever comes with the correct cables, dont just focus on the PS3. Try buying a printer, they never come with the cable you need so you cant use it at all!

It did at least come with a cable capable of carrying a high definition image, though admittedly it didn't even come with HDMI until the Elite which does come with an HDMI cable.

The fact that Sony released a next gen console, touted as producing the best high definition graphics EVAR, without any form of cable capable of a high definition picture was frankly astounding. I guess they had to do anything possible to reduce it's already horrendous launch cost.

not everyone has a HD TV so they appealed to the masses by including the type that would allow the most people to use it straight out the box

lol @ some people. HDMI cables are 3quid.

Errrr, that's not the issue, I just want things to work out of the box. PC mainboards come with all cables required, a monitor comes with a vga and dvi cable like it should, a psu comes with a power cable... Now I have to waste time ordering 2 cables after I get the ps3... I won't prolly spend even 3 quid on a hdmi cable but get a used one from a pc fair from 1 euro or something,

Err yes they do, my mums canon printer came with a usb cable and my dads hp print/fax/copy/scan thing also...

The 360 elite is 150€ cheaper though, it has a reason to not have one it's cheap as hell compared to a ps3.

Yes but its also a 360 and not a PS3.

They should include one I agree as Im sure a good percentage of owners use HDMI but unfortantly they dont and never have so youre gonna have to just bite the bullet on this one.
