Hey Guys,

I have a PS3 connected to my sky internet through my netgear wireless router and BBC Iplayer seems to always be buffering when trying to view videos. I was wondering if any ports needed opening for the PS3 to sucessfully stream over the internet.

Any advice would be much grateful

Thanks in advance

Opening ports won't help anything I'm afraid. If it connects at all, you don't need to open anything.

More likely is the absolutely appauling capabilities of the inbuilt wireless on the PS3. While some will say they have never had an issue, and I'm sure they haven't, the majority will agree the wireless is shocking. Apparently the Slim is a little better, however changing console isn't exactly a solution. The wireless abilities of the Netgear router provided by Sky isn't too hot either I have to be honest (I know, I have one!).

I realise this doesn't help you in any way, but connecting the PS3 via ethernet or homeplugs really is the most reliable.

Now you've gone and done it.

I also struggled to connect my PS3 to a wireless Netgear router on Virgin. My boss at work also failed to get her sons PS3 connected via wireless with a Sky router.

But we are all obviously doing something wrong as there is nothing wrong with the PS3 wireless. ;)

i've currently got my ps3 connected to my (Sky) netgear router by ethernet and it still stutters a bit on iplayer. i just think the ps3 isn't the best way to watch iplayer video

Ignorance is not always bliss ;).

You guys, What was the point in saying this crap, If thats not baiting i dunno what is.

Wireless wise, There's obviously a problem somewhere for a minority of people, But for the most part, It seems to work fine. So God only knows whats causing the minority trouble.

I had various issues with networking via both wireless and ethernet with my PS3 - was fine for a few months, then wouldn't connect. As soon as I assigned a static IP, the problems went, so I'd try that :)

I would say the problem with the PS3 and it's wireless is more to do with the SeatToController Interface.

I had wireless problems too when I first bought my PS3 - I have a Netgear DG834N router. Killzone 2 multiplayer refused to connect with wireless, but was fine with a LAN cable. I fixed it by assigning the PS3 a static IP address and then put that address in the router's DMZ. Also, I switched off the 'N' 270MBps communcation mode and forced the router to only use 'b' and 'g' mode. This seemed to do the trick.

Hope it helps.

I have the sky router I think is in question, the D834GT and it definately isn't a bad router. It's been flashed to work on other ISP's and put on DGTEAM custom firmware and your sorted!

I highly doubt it's the router at fault here.
