PS3 woes..

and truthfully, to the naked eye, untill you go into 50" screens, or you sit like 3 m away from the tv screen, you cant tell the difference between 720p and 1080p

On movies perhaps moreso, it depends on th display and the person. On games its a much diffrent story.

Tv and movies dont suffer generally with jaggies like games do. What your saying is the same as that a person wouldnt notice the difference on a PC monitor at a typical distance (under 1 metre) with a 720 and 1080 comparison res which is utter nonsense. Jaggies are vastly smoothed/reduced.

The problem with the games on consoles is that most are 720p native res so even folk with 1080 displays wont achieve much benifit on games. On a PC regards gaming etc the resolution is PURE theirs no cheats using "pixel doubling" or scaling techniques.

yeah i was talking about general watching of tv and movies.

Wow, glad I held off now I can save some cash and buy the PC version, 360/PS3 versions both look to have suffered in the rendering department.

It's true PS3/360 don't look too nice in HD, I have a 1080P set too and game after game just seems to be 720P (or lower!) upscaled to 1080P and look like ass, HD era they're having a laugh.

It looks great in motion on the PS3\360, obviously your not gonna get the High Res and Tons of AA that you will get on the PC version but its still gorgeous on the consoles, and what a cracking game it is!

So I picked up my shiny new PS3 today along with Casino Royale and Black Hawk down on BR + Sega Rally, COD4, a very expensive HDMI cable and a second sixaxis controller.

All came to around £450.

Plugged it all together - hooked it up to my 37" 1080p Samsung TV.

PS3 detected the HDMI cable and automatically optimised to 1080p. Fine so far.

Then I put COD4 into the drive and loaded it up. To my dismay it's very grainy and the absence of AA is hugely evident - especially on the gun the character's holding!

Am I doing something wrong? I have read its sometime better to reduce to 720p? I have just sold my PC (E6600 + 8800GTS) to add to my misery :(

Next gen my @rse! Oh dear!
How about toning down the sharpness level on your tv?

Many HDTVs I have come across that have their default sharpness level too high, making the screen appeared more jagged.

Worth a try? :)
