I'm attempting to fix my 60GB Launch Day PS3, when I switch it on it goes red, Yellow then Blinking Red.

I tried the Pulling the Hard Disk out method with not luck, then to rule out the Power Supply I hooked it up to my PC 500W PSU and same thing happens (Pic http://www.imagebam.com/image/9fc13082936084)

So I guess it needs the heat gun treatment.

Argos has a £19.99 gun with does 350C - 550 will this do? Tesco has one which does 300C. and also will using flux help with the fix?

If this works, I have a feeling it may fail again so I'm planning to cut a hole for a 120mm fan at the bottom of the case to help the cooling.

Yeah 350C will be fine for re-flow, just make sure it also has a low speed setting, pretty sure its sounds a bit like the one ive used to some success. As for flux it will help keep the joints clean and help wetting the solder joints so its a good idea to use but dont use to much as it will leave a residue on the board. Depending on the flux it may damage the board so try to use noclean flux if possible.

thanks for the reply, I brought the heatgun (350 degrees - 300 litre/min) yesterday and my friend is bringing over some no clean liquid flux today so hopefully I'll have some good news to report.

Success!! :)

I don't want to leave it on for long until I can get some 3rd party cooler for it, can anyone recommend one, Intercooler?

I was also think of cutting or drilling holes on the bottom of the case then place it on 3 fan laptop cooler.

Edit: the fan is now super quiet not sure if that's good or not.
