The king of the north!
Sorry if this is old news but I can't find anything about it on here

As we know the ps4 is a 8core system and two of these cores were reserved for the interface. However one of these two cores has been released to work along side the other 6 in games.

article here

This is certainly interesting to me as I always wished it had just that little bit of extra headroom to keep it running smooth on some fames that it may have fps issues on

I'm pretty sure the consoles needs more GHz per core and GPU power rather than cores! If you think current gen games run smoother on PCs with four cores.

When I compare the xbox 360 to the PS3 dashboard and in game interface, i'd take the much smoother and quicker 360 over the PS3 any day of the week. PS4 interface, you can keep your extra core!

edit- also after reading that article, if games consoles got rid of lots of the features I don't use or like, like voice recognition, sharing constant recording etc it would free up power for games to use :(

Are those two cores not dedicated to the OS? So by re allocating the 7th core to game use, the OS will potentially become more degraded?

I wonder if they could get away with a small overclock like ms did with the xbox one?

Hopefully next they can free up some ram.

They would have reserved more CPU/RAM than was actually required on the basis that it gave them the flexibility to add potentially resource intensive OS level features later on. Equally if they find that they don't need all the reserved resources as presumably has happened in this case then they can free them up for other uses.

They need to get some quality exclusives on it rather than making the thing more powerful.

The last thing Sony need is to make it faster, look at the Vita. That was starved of games.

Yes the PS4 is starved of games. Sony is clearly struggling in the face of stiff competition. Didn't take long for the arm flappers to turn up to apply damage control.

Whether 60fps is achieved is nothing to do with the machine, its a design choice by developers.

Its not a design choice at all you can get some of the same games on pc and they can run @ 60fps when the console version is locked @ 30fps.

The hardware is pretty poor this gen imo:)

Not getting the comparison as you can run games on a PC and pretty much whatever FPS or resolution you want.

It is a design choice whether they target a fixed 30, 60 FPS or a variable unlocked frame rate on the console.

They have to compromise on the consoles the hardware just isn't powerful enough that is why most games are 30fps or there about:)

Even a low end Gtx950/R370 GPU can do a better job than this gen consoles:o

Roll on PS5 and xbone two maybe they will get it right next time:o

When will the PC crew get it into their heads that the consoles aren't targeted at them, Jesus. This tiresome waffle in every console thread. Yawn. PC's have their own problems, lots of them.

Consoles are what they are, they always have been. Stop crying about it.

Had this exact discussion with friends and on other forums, it's always the PC lot saying they suck because a game isn't 60fps or 1080p and so on. It's a console, if you want 60fps, 144hz, 1080p+ on everything then get a PC as consoles are never ever going to match a decent PC.

It's why i have both, if i feel i need something at a higher rez or better graphics i go to the PC.

Games feel completely different on a PC, the accuracy of the mega dpi mouse means games are played at a much more frenetic pace, then you have the script kiddies running more and more sophisticated hacks.

Sometimes the hassle and intensity of playing on the PC I cannot be bothered with and I just wanna lay on the settee with a beer.

Its good to have both IMO. I bought Fallout 4 for the PS4 as I didn't fancy hours huddled in my man cave office when I could be in a comfy chair.

I predict that in 5 years or so when the next next gen releases they won't be as fast or as powerful as a decent PC at that time, either.

I still won't care.

minor rumblings
1. Frenetic - nice word!
2. Don't drink laying down, it's bad for you.
3. Buy a comfy chair for the man cave. All your problems are then solved (including point 2 = improved health)

More cores is not what the PS4 needs. it needs exclusives as already mentioned!!

Agree. :)

Neither will I and i'll own one of the newer ones as well! :)
