My PS3 died a while ago, and I'm finally going to purchase a PS4 soon to replace it. I'll be getting Watch Dogs when it comes out but I haven't kept up-to-date with the games that have come out since launch, so not sure what else to get. I thought it would be interesting to see what you guys consider to be the best games for the PS4 so far to help me decide.

I don't have a specific genre or anything in mind , so I'll leave it entirely up to you, just give a name (and reason if you want) for each of the following categories...

Best Single player

Best Co-op

Best Online Multiplayer

My Next Purchase

(Hopefully this sort of thread hasn't been done yet, I couldn't find one)

Best Single player - Infamous

Best co-op - Resogun

Best online Multiplayer - Errr.. depends what you like. I play Madden 25 online, some play Fifa, some play Killzone, etc. There isn't really one main online multiplayer on PS4 yet I think. Maybe War Thunder would be my favourite.

Thanks Murray. I realise the multiplayer category is probably going to be mostly franchise games but I was hoping the odd smaller game would be mentioned as well - War Thunder looks interesting so thanks for that.

No such thing as best, various flavours for different palettes.

You may enjoy eating steak for instance whilst someone else may prefer prawns, etc.

Better off not listening to anyone and picking games based on what you have liked in the past.

I have pretty much hated every psn plus game so far apart from resogun for instance

Best Single player: Infamous or Metal Gear Solid (very short though, buy it used and sell it on as soon as you finish and you will lose very little on it)

Best Co-op: Lego Marvel! knack can be fun coop but the second player is just an add on and makes no difference to the game itself.

Best Online Multiplayer: i swith between COD and battlefield depending if i want a bit of fun run and gun or a bit more serious slow paced battle, will be picking up the next fifa but tend to avoid them at the begining of the console life

its difficult as its so early in the life, i tried assasins creed but like all the others in the series the animus ruins it for me, this is the reason i wont be pre-ordering watchdogs as i want one large open world not lots of small bits with a stupid animus system.

im also playing child of light and stick it to the man (free with PS+ this month) and they are both great games so far.

Are there many blockbuster titles out for the PS4?

I still didn't think there were many games bar the PS3 releases, so maybe that's why there aren't too many suggestions?

Thanks for the suggestions so far guys - also take the point about not many 'must-have' games out yet. I'm only really looking for 1 or 2 games that I could play before/alongside Watch Dogs so that's fine.

Clearly I'm not going to go out and buy a game just because someone has suggested it here - I haven't been following PS4 news so was interested to see what the general consensus would be before I do more research about certain titles.

Better close all the review sites down then.

I havent played it myself but ive also heard tomb raider is very good, i want to purchase it but as i now have it from PS+ on PS3 its hard to justify it.

if i had the time to justify the purchase price i could imagine getting lost in this as i enjoyed what i played of the beta but to me MMO's have always been a game that is better to play when you have a free day or night to spend 5-8 hours sessions with a group but with a wife and 2 kids this just doesnt happen any more.

how does this work with the vita? as that adds an element of portability and essentially a second platform to play the game on, one which is easier for me to play for longer periods.

Best Single player
Outlast - Ultimate hide and seek and it was free!

Best Co-op
Fifa - Co-op seasons is a great laugh

Best Online Multiplayer
Battlefield 4 - Not had any issues with it and I would rate it higher than Ghosts

My Next Purchase
The expansion for Outlast but for a full game it will probably be The Last of Us

Well as it happens I bought the vita just for this purpose. Over wifi it plays the same. I've managed to do dungeons with ease. Only prob is you can't voice chat over remote play - well atleast I haven't found out how to.

Well, I recently quit due to it eating too much of my time, so this might be hypocritical. But even the longest raid I ever took part in (as one of the server-first for Lich on the majority of content up to Turn 6, which is where I stopped) was only 3 hours long.

Any other time I was playing longer was just adding a lot of shorter things together - so it's very much a game you can get the most out of with only an hour or two in a sitting. It's just addictive - but if you can handle that then it's not an issue, and is an exceedingly good game.

Im currently playing infamous, though it looks great and isnt a bad game i am struggling to keep at it. Having played the first 2, this one just feels the same. Not always a bad thing for a franchise but its kind of dull and all the characters are terrible imo

FFXIV as above is pretty decent, rather overwhelming at first as it introduces a lot to you and playing an mmo on a controller takes time. Also theres sometimes a lot going on which strains my eyes at a distance lol sit closer for this one! Spend some time increasing hud elements to your liking and it will be better

Other than that towerfall Is a fun co op game, reso gun is a great score chaser.
