PS4 - make a PC headset work with PS4 for £5

I had no issues when I was running my Xbox One stereo headset through my PS4 controller. Sound quality was fine.

My current PS4 wireless headset (thanks Sweep (rabbit) for cutting the Xbone headset wire in half...) is better but certainly not by any drastic level.

Sound quality was fine.

when i used it with a splitter into the controlle rit was awful.

i am used to decent sound quality though and was using highly regarded headphones (not crappy gaming headsets which are all about form over function).

in terms of SQ

optical > USB > DS4

there isn't much difference between optical and USB apart from the fact one is stereo only, in terms of quality

the DS4 uses bluetooth to communicate with the console, it will be cheap parts too, not apt-x or anything near that

it is good enough for voice comms, think old bluetooth headsets, but there is a reason why apt-x was invented and is now recomended for anyone looking for quality over bluetooth.

i wouldn't recommend running game sounds through a ds4 at all, voice chat only and your fine, i could hear crackles, hisses and pops, but a decent set of headphones will show them up a lot more than a poor one. if i had to rate them i would say;

optical - 10/10
USB - 9/10
DS4 - 4/10

it is that bad for game sounds

i would recommend using a cheap USB headset if you want to run game sounds through them over the ds4 any day

something like this only costs 80p and is a better solution

Using an audio stereo splitter, one end plugs into the ds4, then it leaves two jacks one for the Mic and one for audio for my pc headset, works flawlessly.. superb way to effectively get a pc headset to work on a ps4. total cost, £3.50 for the stereo audio splitter. job done.

Never used an headset or had reason to chat on consoles but I have on PC and use Steelseries Siberia V2. Quite happy with these and it got me thinking, If I bought this adaptor could I use them on both XBone and PS4 just for chat while having in game sounds come through the TV / HiFi?

you can do that on the PS4, which is why i have repeated that the DS4 is fine to use for voice chat only and get in game sounds from a different source (TV, soundbar, 5.1 system, hi-fi, etc) or use mixamp/usb.

i have no idea about xb1 as i don't own one.

you go into the settings and set audio to chat only, the other option is all sounds which is where the issue lies with sound quality, it isn't up to scratch.

I just have a cheap USB mic plugged into my PS4 and send all audio to my TV then just plug my headphones into tv

PS it's the only way i've found to record game chat on my PS4

Obviously perception helps when people think something is good quality. I mean some people think McDonald's is fine food.
If people don't know any better and haven't experienced quality sounds through quality equipment then fair play.

I use this splitter cable with my set of Sennheiser PC-360's
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-...420887802&sr=8-1&keywords=sennheiser+splitter

Works a treat. My PS4 is in the corner of a big room and theres no way I would trail a cable all the way to it from my seating position.

No problems with hiss and crackles here - and I wouldn't exactly call myself an audiophile but I do like good quality sound, it's a good compromise for the flexibility if you ask me. They defo sound much better than that nasty wireless official sony headset that came out the same time as the PS4!

My sound quality was fine through controller, but volume not as good as my mixamp obviously.

Is there a way I can put my headphone cable in my mixamp and my mic cable from my headset into ps4? If I plug mic into controller, it cancels out the sound from my mixamp.

I just got one of these today of ebay for £3 seems to do the job well enough:p

you need the TB chat cable, it's been explained before in the PS4 headset thread

optical -> mixamp (game sounds)

mic -> mixamp -> TB chat cable - DS4 (voice comms)

the mic plugs into the mixamp, then the mixamp plugs into the DS4 using the TB chat cable.

it has to be a TB chat cable or some other verified cable that works, the cable needs to be made a specific way in order for it to work. there is a complex explanation on head fi somewhere about the type of cable it needs to be i think it's called TRSS or something.

pretty much this. some people are saying SQ is fine from the controller for game sounds. i can direct you to many many posts on head fi which say it is terrible and the guys on there take their sound quality very seriously. in fact i based most of my purchasing decisions from head fi threads as well as sound city in terms of headphones and headsets.

if you think it sounds good then you are obviously used to poor quality sound. the same way many people think beats by dre sound amazing. i could show you a £30 pair of headphones which sound better than a £300 set of beats.
