Hi all. I know very little about PS4's having always dealt with the PC but my niece convinced me to order her one from an online retailer. Got it and everything seemed fine. Then less than a month in the hard drive developed a major issue then "died" so sent it back to sony and got it repaired and back it came. Before I sent it I had already downloaded media player for it but now that it's a fresh drive I had to download it again. And that's where the problem starts.

You enter the screen to start the download but for some unknown reason it does not and will not start, despite placing the icon in the main menu. Games download fine and everything else is back to how it was before it went wonky but media player does not want to cooperate.

I am not sure why but I have been over the settings and cant see anything wrong (as I said the games download fine) so I am puzzled as to why this media player is the exception.

Has anyone else experienced this? Or would it be best to contact sony about it?

I've never had a problem like this but do you have an external HDD you could try? If you could change the installation location to the external drive and see if it lets you do it then? Alternatively you could try setting up another PSN account and try downloading it via that one?

I have an external HDD already attached. As far as i can tell there's no way of changing the media player install location but ill double check to make sure. :)

How to change the Application Install Location
To change the install location of your applications, you need to choose where you would like to save them. You cannot change the application install location during a download.

  1. Select
    settings-icon-01-ps4-eu-22jul15.gif
[Settings] > [Storage], and then press the OPTIONS button.
  2. Select [Application Install Location] > [Extended Storage].

I'm not sure it will make a difference but the second PSN account idea might.

Problem solved!!!! Feel stupid now as it turn out the ps4 has a download limit and the media player had not downloaded as it was at the bottom of a queue that my niece had added a load of games to.

doh and double doh!!!

Thanks for your help anway guys. Im off to hang my head in shame at missing something like this :p

Not sure how many is the maximum but she had a few going, the evil within and 2 assasin's creed ones, maybe 3 or maybe more not sure but right at the bottom of the list was the media player :)
