Ps5 shortages are still rife.

Cba with getting a pc.again just yet.

Worth part ex ing. My slim for a pro? I know some games run at 60fps on it.

How is the noise? I had a og ps4 and it was unusable due to the fan.

PS4 Pro is still a good call if you are on a budget and still looks and plays great at 1080p with Supersampling. However if you buy second hand even the newer models can suffer from loud fans after a year or 2 of use. Unless you can get one cheap and are prepared to strip and replace the thermal compound be prepared for a jet engine. If you can afford a PS5 keep an eye out on the likes of Hotstock.io which is great for up to date alerts for restocks.

I use a PS5 quite happily on a 1080p TV for performance rather than 4k, plus newer versions on games.

My daughter has a PS4 Pro as replacement for her PS4 thanks to a friend on mine and uses that on her 1440p PC monitor quite happily. Spider Man looks stunning and runs so much better than it did before. I did clean and re-paste it, but never changed the thermal pads, and it is quieter than when we were given it.

So many games are actually labelled as Pro enhanced due extra performance or features it would hard to go into. Other titles can get a generic boost that smooths out performance, with the option enabled in system. Big studio titles like Spiderman and Horizon Zero Dawn got a visual detail boost and better frame rate.

If you Google something like 'PS4 Pro boost mode enhanced games' you should get several choices of well known gaming sites with comprehensive breakdown lists.

You should be able to find any games you are interested in and see if they gain any benefits that make the move worthwhile to you.

Interestingly I found Ghost Recon Wildlands looked better on my friends Pro at 1080p than it does on PS5, so much so I stopped going back to it. It actually felt and looked completely off even against how it was on the base PS4.

I would get a series s + gamepass as they are pretty cheap and have more 60fps support + resolution boosts on older games.

You do miss out on the Sony exclusives (which of course you know) but that might be reason for someone to stick with Sony.

But the series S would be a good entry point into next gen although Series X availability is good.

I don't think I'd invest in a PS4 Pro at this point unless you can buy one really cheap.

I don't understand how people still can't get a PS5. Just sign up to Stock Informer and jump on their Discord. I got a PS5 on launch day and I've bought 3 since for friends.

Do the above and you'll have one within a few weeks I'm sure.

He already has a Slim PS4 which plays the same games at the PS4 Pro so he's not missing out on any game by going the XBox route, and would be gaining access to hundreds of games via Game Pass and the XBox exclusives.

It definitely seems to be the smart way to go as the PS4 Pro still has a massively crippled CPU that stops games from having significant and stable frame rate increases over the Slim.

I just assumed he'd be using his ps4 to fund the series s purchase, as he mentioned trading in for a pro.

If he's able to keep the ps4 and then buy a series s then yeah that would be a cost effective path to take.
