It's unlike that 1440p will be supported, with TVs being the primary display choice. Go for either 1080P or 4K.

Even with the hardware upgrades in next gen consoles, I still think we'll be lucky to see anything better than 1080P@120hz or 4k@60hz

Old Xbox got native 2560x1440 support, so don't see why new wouldn't have it from day one.

PS4 uses upscaled 1920x1080, but would be pretty bad move from Sony to not support it similarly in PS5.

Considering pretty extreme GPU demands of 3840x2160 can actually see both consoles using lower res (like 2560x1440) in heavier games and then upscaling that.

I assume the usage isn't JUST for the console - you're planning on using it on the pc too? As a primary games monitor or as the second screen? These questions will change my recommendations.

If 4k gaming is supported doesn't that guarantee 1440p to be supported?

Mostly on console

So, which one do you think is better 1080p IPS or 1440p TN?

I didn't actually realise it was supported as per @EsaT post above.

While it may be supported in terms of working, it's unlikely to ever be a preferred target for developers to optimise for (which was more what I meant).

1080P, 4k and 8k are the resolution of TVs, these will be what is optimised for.

But what do you think between this battle "1080p IPS - 1440p TN" ?

Wouldn't even think about TN, when there are VAs for less.

Whatever runs "console well" at 3840x2160 pixels will certainly run well at 2560x1440 pixels.
(~8.3M pixels vs ~3.7M pixels)
And that GPU power should run 2560x1440 well, unless raytracing performance is as bad as in RTX cards...

Question is only about adding 2560x1440 into natively supported resolutions of console.

Consoles will be targeting 4k so better off with a TV. Also, TV's scale lower resolutions much better than a monitor will. If you going to use mostly for consoles then get a decent TV for better HDR and they will have VRR by the time the PS5 comes out.

What's your max budget? :p
400$ max budget

I prefer monitors because I sit close to them on a desk.
