PSA: Firefox addons/extensions

I'm still peed off the removed the RSS feeds.

Oh.. Chromium is just the Linux version of Chrome. (Chromium has my FB login. Firefox has the missus)

Not quite mate. Chromium is the open source version, built from and by the Chromium project. Google then adds extra closed-source/proprietary stuff on top and brands it as Chrome. You can run either of them on any OS, but Linux only tends to include Chromium for FOSS reasons.

Dissenter.com? If yes both those browsers work with it, and the extension for ff at least is click and install.
No, they blocked them from their stores. You need to enable developer mode and re-enable it every time you open the browser (at least in the case of FF).

Just tried that Normandy about:config tweak but it made no difference. Adblock plus and Origin still dont work. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Oh well Chrome here I come.
Ah sorry to hear that. It was the only thing that worked for me. I also installed the Vivaldi browser earlier as a backup.

Update: Mozilla have pushed an interim fix, using the 'Firefox Studies' mechanism to push the fix to all users as a temporary patch. If you have Studies disabled (as I do for privacy reasons), just enable them and check about:studies until - a few minutes later - the hotfix shows up and your extensions reappear. You can then disable Studies again. They will release a full Firefox update to address this issue - without need for the Studies workaround - in due course.
Thanks for that. Took me a while to find it without pictures but I got there in the end.

Ahh, fair enough, that's a different story then. But

You need to enable developer mode and re-enable it every time you open the browser (at least in the case of FF).

For me on FF, all I need to do is go to dissenter.com, hit Get Dissenter up the top, hit FF and download the extension. I'm then asked to allow the install and that's it. Closing FF and reopening it it's still there, no re-enabling required. AFAIK I've not enabled developer mode, I did do a search of the settings for "developer" and found nothing. On Chrome you have to turn on developer mode, and then it seems to nag me every time I load Chrome though. I've been reminded why I don't like Chrome - runs Chrome, Chrome proceeds to scan EVERYTHING, even after closing it, and force stopping it. WTAF.

A whole two times! :p

It amazes me that people are willing to let Microsoft and other massive corps slip through the cracks with tolerance when they royally mess up countless times with updates. Yet Mozilla does it twice and all hell breaks loose and people are considering switching browsers even though a fix was released within 6 hours?

Well said!

There was also the debate here about sites working for IE but broken on other browsers. This is because the web designer ignored W3C (the standard for web design) in favour of IE so to fit with Microsoft's agenda only. The sites that do comply with W3C will work on Firefox and Opera etc.
