Hi, I'm currently considering getting myself a psp. I know there's a new model coming out soon but the price is far more than I would consider paying for a handheld.

Is it worth waiting or should I go and get one right now?
My main reason for wanting one is to play old ps1 games:)

Any advice appreciated, thanks.

There's a few thread on this subject already if you have a look on the forums mate. The new model is basically for people who don't like to have hard copies of media. You can only download games to it, or transfer them to it with a memory stick. There's a few minor hardware changes to it, a little extra RAM but nothing big enough to justify paying £200 for it in my opinion. Although it all depends on wether you've had a PSP before, wether you'd be happy buying a phat which can be picked up really cheap, or maybe going for a PSP 2000 or even 3000 for less than £100.

I would say though that make sure that you'll be able to bear PS1 game visual and audio quality, even the PSP dwarves the PS1 quality by some margin. I often look at things with a bit of nostalgia and then when I end up going back to give them another play I just find them unbearable compared to modern day games. I found my old PSone in the attic a week or two ago and whipped it out to have a go, I had to turn it off after less than an hour. The games were just unplayable to me.

I recently got one. Decent bit of kit with some decent games, although coming from a proper PS3 controller it often feels like there aren't enough buttons for everything which makes it awkward. Graphics aren't bad at all though, not quite PS2 standard but not a million miles away.

Although Metal Gear Solid: Portable ops looks like everyone is made out of lego bricks!! :D

I'm considering getting one too when I have the money. Is it only the new version that can have stuff downloaded and put onto it?

You can download games onto any psp as long as it has a memory stick. The new PSP go doesn't have a umd drive so you have to download games on it.

Try and get yourself an old phat psp.

will be cheaper and you can make it play your old ps1 games.

Thanks.
I've just picked up a 2nd hand White slim n lite for just over £80. The bloke in the shop forgot to check it, when I got back I noticed it had FIFA 09 and a 2 gb memory stick in it:D

Seems like you already made your mind up before even startning this thread.

Congrats on the freebies. :p

I don't understand why a lot of people **** the psp.

I bought one last year to use on the train and I love it.

I have about ten psp games, mario 64, a snes emu+megadrive emu with tons of games on a 8Gig stick. :D

It's the king and a lot better than other handhelds.
