PSU and paperclip trick...

Right im not confident with the whole paperclip thing, looking for a green wire and then a black to bypass them so i was wondering if i could just plus the 24 pin and 4+4 pin into a seperate motherboard with no cpu and power the psu that way to test and run my water loop?

Its not hard. But when you do it just make sure none of the other connectors are connected.

But will the spare motherboard trick work too? If i just plug in the board and nothing else to power up the psu?

Just do the paper clip trick, it's not hard, it's like jumping CMOS pins in essence.... you will have to jump the power pins on the motherboard you are suggesting, unless you have a spare on/of button to attach to it.

But all this when you can just touch a paper clip to the black and green wire nice and easy seems a waste of time

Yeah, either black wire that will be next to the green wire will do.

(there should only be one solid green wire)

Okay so from what i've read elsewhere i have to do this... Can someone please confirm so i dont electrocute the crap out of my myself.

1. Plug psu into wall
2. Turn on psu at the back.
3. Bridge the green and black connectors together
4. PSU should come to life!
5. Connect pump to the psu after that.

Is that the correct order?

I read that it was impossible to electrocute yourself using this method? That isn't what I think, it is just what I have read

Either way you do it doesn't matter. Green is only 5v afaik so you'll have to be pretty silly to electrocute yourself.

Apparently some PSUs wont start up without a load thoug, so maybe add a case fan or two, or maybe Im stating the obvious...
