Hi
Recently built my new PC and I went with the OCZ ModXStream since it seemed a popular choice but as soon as I gave it some power it popped and shot a spark at me (Never jumped so much in my life), I've kinda lost faith in this particular PSu so can anybody recommened a similar *More reliable* one?

cossair deffo. not sure what wattage you will need though. also i think the coolermaster 690 case is much better than the antec for only £10 extra

My Corsair TX-650 watt went pop after only 6 months service, it's all down to luck of the draw mate. Just get something with a decent warranty (which of course Corsairs do have)

I've had a couple of OCZ's, one 800W which stopped working and 1000W that makes a hell of a lot of electrical noise, not impressed by their power supplies at all.

Thanks for the input

the big concern for me was any damage to the other components especialy the graphics card, it's been a long time since something going pop took the fuse box with it

I did check for obviouse component damage with my old power supply so I think I got off lucky

It blew your mains fuse/ tripped the MCB?

It went out in style! :D Your PC may still be ok, with any luck the fuse stopped things before a fire or damage to the PC occured...

I once had a seasonic s12 blow like this, brand new psu fresh out of the box, flicked the switch which resulted in a loud bang and sparkly light show, unfortunately it killed my mobo and ram in the process.

Damn, I would be extremely angry if that happened to me!!!

@OP, Be Quiet PSU's are also really good..

This is why I test out new PSU's on an old worthless machine before hooking it up to a decent machine. Something was seriously wrong with your S12, maybe a loose screw in there or something...

When my loop leaked whilst my PC was on (I say leaked, a tube was blasted off a barb, the loop pumped dry over a running PC ) the whole house went dead, due to it tripping the main breaker. Only a GPU died during that incident, was bloody 1/2" barbs on 7/16 tubing as well.

I've have had 3 watercooled machines over the years, and never had anything like that happen to me, I bet your face looked just like this: -->

Good point, i do keep an old athlon xp rig lying about, very useful for testing any new psu's ive bought lately, pity i learned the hard way, i also had an enermax liberty go pop a year ago, after over 2 years use, fortunately nothing else was taken out, got that one replaced under warranty. Also run a thermaltake toughpower (essentialy a rebadged corsair tx) which has been great so far.
