PSU burning side of case?

I wouldn't say it was burning, as im sure you would be alerted by a smell. Does look a little like Rust as J-FRO mentioned, but better pics would help determine this.
 
Next better pics to be able to tell, but the colour of that brown stuff looks like rust to me.

Just took the side of the case off and had a closer look, could be rust as there is nothing unusual on the side of the case next to the PSU itself, just that brown stuff in corner of the window.

I've never seen rust inside a case before though so my initial thoughts were burnt
 
How can it be rust? Water cooling gone wrong? Unless water or any form of moisture has gotten into the inside of your computer then it's not going to be rust.
 
Of course rust can occur without water contact. There is moisture in the air and that certainly looks like rust from the crappy pictures provided.
 
as an Engineer who has just done a module on corrosion (:cool: :p) you can get rust anywhere that there has exposed steel, an electrical potential and moisture. So if you live in a particularly humid country/house/room and the steel was exposed to light scratches or something (from when you installed the power supply) then you can get rust forming. The electrical potential does not mean that there is electricity passing through the metal, it means that if the steel is not "homogeneous" i.e. is not PERFECTLY uniform on a molecular level, then different areas of the steel have different "electrical potentials" and so it is at these boundaries corrosion occurs. :)

Amazing what they teach you nowadays. You needed a whole module to work out that bare steel rusts with moist air? Nice ;)
