PSU Caused Fire

I sold a Thermaltake Toughpower XT 1275W Gold PSU and the guy couldn't get it running, after leaving it on all night he was able to get it to power and is saying when he turned it on he got sparks, flames and massive plume of smoke (smoke alarm goes off), killed his SSD.

It was fine when i sent it and i have received it back and no sign of any damage to PSU, no cables melted, no smoke smell and it powers up fine for me, ran it under load and no issues. Guy is a member on here so not saying i don't trust him but i can't RMA a working PSU, how likely is a high end PSU like this to cause issue above and leave PSU undamaged?

None at least a melted cable plug if it burned at that end and if it was at main PSU end it would be a mess.

The fact it does not even smell...

maybe no the greatest pic but heres an idea on what it may look like or something similair

i presume he is trying to hit you for a new ssd

I had the same sort of thing happen to me. Bought a PSU off here, Plugged it in & Bang whoosh Cloud of smoke  + :p

When I took the PSU out it Stank, Seller was real good about it, Can't remember who it was now as it was years & years ago but I wouldn't mention the chaps name anyway as **** 'appens.

Anyway... If it had blown it would Stink.

Not quite the same, but a build I made, the Graphics card blew (And when you put it into a PC and tried to start it, it stank, like really horrible), it took the SSD with it when it broke, but the PSU's been working perfect post incident lol.

So parts can take others with surges.

See I'd do the opposite.
I'd video the PSU working and send that to the person and kindly explain it's not the PSU and how are they going to pay for return postage of it?

I tend to agree, if the OP has the Power Supply back in his possession and it's working perfectly, then there's clearly nothing wrong with it

Depends how much hassle the op want's tbh, at the mo he has it back and can resell it if he gets in to a long winded battle with this guy it could be weeks without a resolution
