I'm in the process of upgrading my system and I'm hoping I dont need a new PSU. I currently have a Corsair HX620 modular supply.

The system in the end will be a 5850 and a Core i5 @4.0 (one of the OCuk bundle deals). I only run a single Samsung F3 1TB drive.

I ask because the alredy 5850 has a slight whistling issue in certain games, most notably STALKER in the main menus. Some posts suggest this could be a PSU issue, but I think the Corsair is a good make, and others seem to think its just a capacitor burn in issue?

Will the i5 be using less juice than the E6600 I have at the moment?

And then assuming I dont go Crossfire for a few months, am I okay on the PSU front for now when I upgrade next weekend?

The TDP of the E6600 is 65W. For the i5 it's 95W, and you're overclocking quite a bit which I'd estimate was going to take that up to at least 150W. So no, it's very unlikely to be using less juice than your E6600. That said, your PSU should probably be adequate for the job anyway.

Easily enough for 5850. (even 5870 has 160W Furmark/worst case load)

And why are just people keeping to claim capacitors whining?
Noise means something moving/vibrating and even electrolyte caps aren't any lead acid batteries with parts in loose space unlike coils which have rounds of wire not encased/molded into anything solid...
Although I guess cap is going to keep noise in this kind of state:
