Hi all, after some advice
I have a GTX 3080 (msi) that a friend said will not work with my PSU - https://www.msi.com/Power-Supply/MPG-A850G-PCIE5 , from what I remember the problem is that the PSU needs triple 8 pin PCIE and the PSU only has 16 pin available. He recommended I buy a brand new PSU, but I was wondering if there are any adapters etc. that will be able to fix this issue. When I was looking today I believe the PSU has a 16 and 2+8 pcie pin so I'm not sure why it won't work with this GPU. If anyone could explain this like I'm 5 and give me some suggestions, that would be really helpful!

That PSU is fine and should have the cables you need already. You'll likely see two 8 pin PCI-E's daisy chained onto one cable. Use one of those to connect 2 power plugs and then a separate cable to connect the third one.

Your friend is a numpty (< me being tactful). Your psu has a pair of dual 6+2 pin pci-e connectors plus it also has something I have never seen before and that is a 16 pin high power at the psu end to dual 6+2 pin pci-e cables giving you a total of 6 pci-e plugs albeit three are daisy chained. What I would use is both connectors from the 16 pin to dual 6+2 pin pci-e cable plus a single connector from one of the other dual 6+2 pin cables.

This wiring plan is messing with my OCD.
