PSU Concerns

Hi,
Wonder if anyone could shed some light on this.

Checking my voltages by Sandra Pro Lite 2008.
+3.3v reads 3.29v
+5v reads 5.08v
+12v reads 6.04v

It is the 12v that concerns me. Is that ok? In BIOS on boot up, it reads as 12v.

The PSU is a 500w EZCool.

The system is an Abit SLi mobo with an E6550 Processor. 4 Hard Drives, DVD Writer, 8600GT 256MB SLi ready GFX Card.

The MOBO Power config is 20+4 and 8 pin socket to power the CPU (with a 4 pin connected). There is a molex connector for powering the PCI-E, which is connected.

Just a bit concerned incase the 12v could damage anything as I would hate anything to blow or fail.

Thanks

I'm surprised if it would even boot with the voltage that low, check what your BIOS
reads and speedfan.

Worst case buy a cheap multi-meter and test it yourself.

Thanks for the replies.

Bios reports 12v, the AbitEQ reports 12.09v

Speedfan/Sandra both read 6v.

If I need to, I can soon plug a difference PSU in from my old build.

Machine is stable at stock speeds. Not so sure about if overclocked as I haven't tried since I replaced the thermal compound with AS5. Going to leave a few days before trying it.

I have noticed some quite large variations on temperature readings also. AbitEQ and Speedfan both read the CPU as low 40's C, Core Temp is reporting as mid 50's.

Very confusing what to believe

Thanks for the link :) I have checked this out with Everest and that reports 12v. Will borrow an MM from someone I know. Have to admit, I am far from happy with this build though. The Akasa HSF seems to get loose very easy. Doesn't seem to attach very well to the mobo and it is quite heavy. Just catch it, and its loose. It just uses the standard fittings like the Intel HSF.

Maybe one day I will get this machine right :D

Be carefull with any overclocking if your using the EZCool PSU's.

I had a 550W one early last year and was getting a combined total of just 365W under full load with my setup. Its sat in the other half's pc now and still going strong as ever though. :)

They are not the best of the bunch but should do you fine if your not throttling the bejeesus out of your setup.

Thanks for the heads up. I am seriously thinking about swapping it out. It came with the case I bought. Couldn't get a stable O/C above about 2.8/2.9ghz. 3ghz failed stability tests on Orthos on a Blend Test. I think I might invest in a new atx2.2 compatibly PSU. I think spending an additional £60 is a worthy investment. Might get the matching SLi gfx card at the same time too lol. Might as well go whole hog!!
