Ok so I have a brand new NZXT 80 plus gold modular PSU. My mobo is a Asus VI Formula and has an 8 pin connector for the CPU as well as a 4 pin one next to it.
The psu has a 4 + 4 cable that goes into the 8 pin connector on the mobo, but my PSU has no further 4 pin cables for the second 4 pin connector on the mobo.

I have plenty of PCI Express cables but it was my understanding that they should not be used for the CPU. Am I doing something wrong? Any advice welcome.

Thanks

Hi, you just use the one, l had to ask as well.

Your PSU Cable 8pin to 2x4pin plugs at the other end is that right?, if that is the case 2x4pin will fit into the 8pin connector on the mobo they only fit one way, check your mobo manual to see what that 4pin connector is on the motherboard.

Had this with my Rampage IV Extreme the other day. It is fine to just plug the 8 pin (or 4+4 pin if that is what you have) into the 8 pin socket. :) The extra 4 pin is just for extra power for crazy overclocking. (as in, attempting world records under LN2 kind of overclocking) :p
