Silly q, but i'd best ask to avoid frying an expensive motherboard.

I have a bunch of these which would be used on a GPU.

From looking at it, these PCIe 8pins look the same as an EPS8pin.. or am i right in thicking they use the same connecor... just wired differently.

For reference, EPS socked on the MSI Ace

Can i use these on a motherboard EPS socket?

The only difference i see between the 2, is the 8th female pin is cuved rather than square.. but i have tested with an EPS 8pin extension lead, and it fits fine

Physically it shouldn't fit - the top and bottom pins on the left won't match. You might be able to force it into the socket and cable, but it's not a risk I'd be comfortable with.

Whatever you do, don't use it to connect a pcie power cable to your mobo.

haha no i would never do that but thanks for the reminder.

May have to disregard that, as the grommets are slightly higher than the motherboard, so the connector will be facing the motherboard tray.. oh well

I was able to find low profile angled eps connectors from Moddiy which shaves off about 10mm in height. Singularity computers do the above for EPS which looks longer but at $20 a pop, it’s not worth it

Guess I’ll be going back to custom cable sleeving myself as all the places I have been looking around say they don’t support Antec or have the PSU pin outs for… so time to purchase a multimeter and find out myself.

Because the standard cables are individually sleeved and all in black. without undoing all that work, how can one tell what AWG it is using? (I emailed Antec support regarding pin out and awg, but they said they don’t provide that info to customers)

The cables are super thin so I’m guessing they are using 16awg with a super thin outter case diameter but can’t be sure. I only found one place which does 16aeg with a 1.9mm outer shell, all others are >2.4-3mm)

Would it be unwise to assume the cables are the exact same as the Seasonic Vertex PX it is based on (as their manual shows 16awg for everything but 18awg for moles and sata.)

What harm is there if I used 17awg wire instead or does it have to be exact 16 or 18… as I found the outer shell much thinner and looks/feels similar to standard

It is certainly more likely than not, but brands having their own custom cables is not unheard of, so I'd be careful with that. Especially with Antec, as they have been "in the game" with PSUs a long while and making custom cables is something I'm sure they could handle.

On the subject with connectors, how do people crimp SATA connectors?

Is there a tool for this, or is it simply lining the wire on the connection and using a flathead to jam it in?
