My Hiper Type R 580w died on me before. I think they die on most people. I'm praying it hasn't taken anything down with it. I've been looking at what to get and pretty much settled on this OCZ:

My budget is about £70 (which had been earmarked 4 a new HD).
I'm also considering this Corsair:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-008-CS&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=

My Specs are:
Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R
E8400 OC to 3.75ghz
4gig of OCZ PC6400
9800GT
3 SATA HDs

I used a psu calculator and it recommended 480w. I'm not planning on upgrading the gfx card yet but when i do, say to a 4890, i'd like to not have to upgrade the psu at the same time.
Any thoughts or recommendations?

Your second choice, the Corsair TX 650W ATX SLi Compliant Power Supply, is a very solid and quality PSU for the money.

The rig in my siggy plus a pair of WD sata 2 hdd's, sata DVDRW, Zalman ZM-MFC2 multifunction fan controller and 5x fans only draws a max of 274w at the wall and that's when running Orthos and fur stability test at the same time. The 4870 is also clocked to 820/4200. A quality 500w psu will be more than enough and still give you enough extra left over for a 4890 in the future.

cheers for the input. still haven't decided between the two, the OCZ is cheaper and modular and the Corsair has a longer warranty and is a more reliable brand.

I used to be indecisive, but now i'm not so sure

The worst thing you can do is skimp on your PSU, its probbly THE single most important peice of kit you will ever buy.
Id go for a corsair or a BeQuiet personaly as there known to be solid products.
Strange as thats the 2nd Hiper thats exploded today

agreed. hard to choose between them though. the corsair are better built but ive not heard of a single bequite failure....then again, they dont sell in anywhere near the numbers the corsairs do id imagine.

Bequiet haven't been around in the UK to judge long term problems.

I remember when the Hiper Type-R was being recommended all the time, just like the Bequiets are now. (Not that I think the Bequiet PSU are likely have any major issues, certainly waaaay better then the Hipers)

But people don't know because there no one in the UK that's had one running for 3 years +.
