PSU failed?

For the past couple weeks I would have to wait for 5minutes or so before the motherboard would light up allowing the PC to boot. However turning it on today it simply would not light. I have referred to jumping the PSU using a paperclip using this webpage.

I have also used the molex fan hub on my switch 810 as I do not have a molex to fan adapter as far as I can see. However after switching it on the PSU still fails to boot. I have also tried connecting my led strip to the molex, with the same results.

I presume I have to send it out to Corsair in the Netherlands for RMA since the box states it has 7 years warranty.

What happened when you tried to start the PSU with the paperclip did it work?

It seems you will have to RMA it yeah. If you have an old PC kicking about I would try it in there first just to rule anything else out, if not just test again to be 100% sure and then RMA it.

Cheers for the replies means I get to rip open an ancient old PC to test it. But yh paperclip was a no go.

Yeah test it in a PC you don't care too much about, just incase it is faulty, half working and delivers some incorrect voltages to the various outputs

Well if paperclip test failed then it's faulty, it's as simple as that really. If it won't come to life after the paperclip test there is no point sticking it in another pc and maybe damaging the pc for something you know is faulty.

RMA the PSU mate and don't bother trying it on another pc and maybe damaging a good pc for no reason.

Well I've tried the fan hub and led strip in the ancient system however I couldn't test the 24pin as it requires a 20pin and I couldn't get it to split.

Exact same thing is happening to me, AX850.

If you are interested in how to speed up the RMA process, since I have had to go though it, just ask.

I spotted your thread shortly after my last post and have had a quick look. Although it would be helpful to know since I couldn't select advanced RMA which would be helpful when I have uni work to complete, most of which can't be done on this pathetic laptop. Unfortunately I can't borrow or get use of another PSU for the mean time.

EDIT: This may also prove my poor performance in game I was going to mention on here, a couple weeks ago, where one of my graphics cards were shown as only being at pci-e 1x compared to the other running at the correct speed.

There was no advanced RMA for me either, although I was offered one once the RMA was approved.

To speed up the RMA process:

Create a RMA on their website, and add a comment asking if they could cover shipment (through a call tag) as it is very expensive. While you are at it scan and add your receipt.

Remove and package the PSU immediately, as they have a tendency to not actually tell you when or even if the collection has been processed. They might and probably will just turn up a day or so after the call tag has been approved.

For me they told me that they had approved a call tag and that UPS would be in contact, I got a tracking email. So I asked if this was them contacting me to arrange a pick up, they said no, but it turned out it was. UPS will not contact you, they will just send you a tracking email. If you are like me and live at a university, everything will go through a central distribution, which means that no one will contact you when they have tried and failed to collect the item because you didn't know they were collecting it.

But anyway, once they have collected the item you just have to wait, can't really say anything more as this is as far as I have got.

One thing to note is that if they do not answer your RMA within 2 days contact the guy from the "slow RMA" thread somewhere in this forum or use the Corsair forums. Another thing to keep in mind is to check the ticket as you do not always get an email saying that it has been updated.

Basically, ask for them to cover shipment through a call tag, check the ticket, and don't be afraid to ask them to clarify or check anything for you.

Thanks, now that's done its time to wait.

Been immensely busy doing assignments so haven't got any further along till today. I got a reply from corsair saying they would not cover shipping costs so I will be using parcel force for £20 via parcel monkey. However I tried the paper lip test today and with a few minutes it spun up the fans and continued running fine. I have tried a couple hours later after it had been turned off and unplugged and it completed the test again within a few settings so I don't know if it just didn't spend long enough disconnected to discharge any remaining current. I'm just hoping that when they receive it that it does not work straight away as I'd imaging I will get a postage return fee and the same faulty psu back.

Sent it on Wednesday last week, received an ax860 back yesterday not a bad rma. So basically a week including shipping both ways.
