Hi,

Installed a new Graphics card today which on the manufacturers website says it recommends a 400w PSU. I've only got a 300w at the mo, and i don't think its enough as everytime i turn the PC on i get fans spinning but no display or startup.

Is this a PSU issue? Or faulty card?

Can you try the graphics card in another pc? or a mates pc?

Then borrow a PSU to test in your pc?

what was the make and model of the psu? and the other system specs?

PSU is just an FSR(?) and i haven't haven't got it to hand at the moment.

I do have another PSU, but that's only a 250, so doubt that'll be much use. I have ordered a 400w which ill get tomorrow, so i'll test it then.

Fingers crossed

Send it back.

Get something from a name brand, that won't run your PC unless you have an old machine with no dedicated GPU.

Tell us the spec of your computer, then we can recommend something.

Ordered an Octigen 400w

whats the rest of the specs? there is an old saying on these forums "never skimp on the psu" buying a 400w from a quality brand such as Corsair/Antec/OCZ would have been the advice you would have received.

Im not really looking for anything high end. Just bought a 3650 to aid video playback and to be able to run WOW.

2x 512mb Kingston DDR3200 and an ancient Athlon CPU

A good 400w PSU would have been £40-46 not a great deal in the grand scheme of things, especially when your trusting your psu to look after your pc components.
