Hi Folks,

I installed a second 5850 last night, however when I started BFGMiner my computer shut down and a notice came on the screen saying it had been shut down by my ASUS surge protector.

My current PSU is "800W EZCOOL PSU SLI/SATA/24V" that's about as much detail I can give you as the place I got it from doesn't stock it any more.

Looking about, I found the below in another thread on a different site:

Voltage Load
+3.3V 32A
+5V 35A
+12V1 17A
+12V 16A
-12V 0.5A
+5VSB 2.5A

I'm guessing I need a new/better PSU, so on that note, can anyone advise the PSU I should get please?

My spec is below:
Intel Core i5 4670K 3.50GHz @ 4.4GHz Quad Core "Haswell"
Alpenföhn Matterhorn Pure Edition CPU Cooler
Asus Z87 Pro ATX Motherboard
2 x ATI Radeon HD 5850 (four 6-pin connectors preferable)
16GB DDR3 Team Group Vulcan Gold 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit
Samsung Spin Point F1 1TB
LG GGC-H20L Blu-Ray Reader
Zalman Z11 Plus Case (5 fans)

Modular preferred, unless there is significant savings going fully cabled, thanks :)

if your sure its the psu, then look into getting a 700w psu from a good company

corsair,be quiet,antec,coolermaster,seasonic,silverstone et etc

With at most 33A on 12v rails (400W) I'd say that '800W' PSU is insufficient for two 5850s and the rest of your system. So not faulty as such, just not powerful enough.

^ 750w should be enough

Remember not to skimp on a PSU, I would say 1000w could be a little overkill Something like:

Seasonic X-Series 1050w '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £179.99

Corsair Professional Series HX+ 1050W '80+ Gold' Modular Power Supply £169.99

XFX 1050W Black Edition Pro '80+ Gold' Certified Modular Power Supply £149.99

Depending on Budget e.t.c

Of course it's the psu. You stuck a cheap and nasty piece of crap in a high end rig!! You are lucky it did'nt blow up. A so called 800w psu that can only putput 400w (even that is doubtful) on the 12v rails is a joke. Never ever skimp on the psu. It is the single most important component in a pc.

We need a sticky about psu's. Too many people been using rubbish in decent rigs and having problems lately.

It's my PSU from my old rig, it was running it all fine, just the other 5850 tipped it over the edge when I installed it.

But yeah, a sticky/guide would be nice as looking at PSU's prior to this thread I was very confused as to what I needed.

When I used 2 5850 I was pulling around 500w with Furmark and Prime running together.
CPU was a overclocked 920 to 4ghz, 750w will be ample.
