PSU for a 8800GT

Hi guys, ive just put down a pre order for the POV 8800GT, ive got a Hiper Type R 580W PSU, will this be enough to power the Gt?

On the side of the box, it says minimum 400W PSU, so you're well within range...just beware the Hiper. Mine (literally) blew up a few weeks ago, luckily it was only concerned with taking its own life, so collateral damage was contained.

Take off the side of your pc and check how much voltage it outputs on the 12V rail. It should be not less than 22A if I remember correctly for the 8800GT to function correctly.

I've got a doubt about mine - because I have 2x 12V rails, one 18A and one 16A on my 550W PSU, but people told me I'm supposed to be OK with that.

Hmm should be ok I think:

425W PCI Express-compliant system power supply with a combined 12V current rating of 28A or more (Minimum system power requirement based on a standard PC configured with an Intel® Core™2 Extreme X6800 processor)

combined 12V current rating of 28A or more
Look at the sticker on the side of your PSU and see what amperage it has on its 12v rail(s).

Anything above 22A should be fine for an 8800GT, despite the 28A suggestion, as manufacturers exaggerate a little just to cover their arses in the event of someone blowing up a super-cheapo PSU. :)

I tried my bfg 8800gt oc with a ezcool 400w with 24amps on 12v rail and it worked but the 12v rail would shoot down to as low as 10.95v when I ran a game or benchmark (thats the minimum and only for a sec, it hovered about 11.3 mostly), this was using asus probe 2 to measure.
I've now got it running on a ezcool 500w with 36 amps on a single 12v rail and it still drops but only as low as 11.4 ish now (again the minimum and only for a sec, it hovers about 11.6 mostly). I'm thinking of getting a real good one sometime but for the time being this 500watter is doing the job.

Personnely Big PSU arnt needed. I have a Q6600 system and most ive used even gaming is 160W ish. just on net I use only 115-116W. I have a corsair 520w and have no intension of upgrading anytime soon

going from a QTEC 500W BigFan PSU (1 x 12vdc rail @ 18A) to an OCZ 600W GameXStream SLI PSU ( 4 x 12vdc rails @ 18A = Total 72A max )

at last I can run an 8800GT SC

;)

hmm,

mines a QTEC 500W, but looking at the specs it has 18A on the 12V rail which is around 215W max...

what are my chances ??

Qtec, the terrorists pick... £20 for a bomb.

I would get the 450w Corsair if I were you :)

I... job.

ezcool are nearly as bad as Qtec.
