PSU for conroe

My Akasa Paxpower 400W happily runs both a P805D (higher power req than your conroe) & an 1800XT (lower power req than your X1900). I would guess a good 450W PSU will be plenty sufficient for your needs. As ever , the quality of the PSU is more important than the nominal Watts the manufacturer states.
In any case I don't think you need spend more than £60.
RE: The future : My guess is that power requirements will come down rather than up from here. I predict that the trend for more efficient CPU's will beat the trend for more Power - hungry GPU's over the long run.

Power requirements will raise in the future because of the graphic cards are power hungry and will in the future need more power. Once 2GB and 4GB memory strips are available as the norm and the price drops people will be using upto 16GB which will require more power as well, and I believe the norm for most users will be 4GB

Massive attack i have replyed to your email

600W
Seasonic S12 600W - £100
Tagan TG600 600W - £90
FSP Epsilon 600W - £90
Enermax Liberty 620W - £100
OCZ GameXStream 600W - £80

500W
Seasonic S12 500W - £75
Tagan Tg500 500W - £75
Enermax Liberty 500W - £70

All good PSU's.

But I dont recommend going as low as 430W as I suspect that X1950XTX is going to be pretty power hungry. Plus your most likely going to get your E6700 to 4GHz also and thats just on stock volts on 800Mhz ram.

I'd go for Tagan as from what I've read the Epsilon is not the most quiet of PSU's. I'd only go Epsilon if your going Crossfire/SLI.

god i'm confused on which 1 to get lol, don't want to get wrong one though, does the hiper type r 580w have all the right connections to work with a conroe mobo?

There is more to power supplies then just their power rating.

How well the rails hold up.

Performance underload/stabilty. How much the different voltages move from idle to load.

Noise levels

Effeciency, many high end PSU's have effeciency between 83% to 86% with means less heat and quieter running as well as saving power. A power supply for £90 could actually be a better buy than a £50 power supply if it saves you £5 per month in energy costs.

Protection, many of the new power supplies have protection for everything and if they blow it will fry any of your other components.

I always think there is no harm in a power supply having more power on tap than one needs.

I have been using OCZ modstream 520watts for a couple of years now and its rock solid. I have been so impressed I just bought the OCZ 600watt gamexstream for a new system build.
