Dear all,

I just wanted to check as to whether Corsair AX860W will be enough for an overclocked system with a 8700k @ 5ghz and MSI 1080Ti. The system will have an HDD and 2 SSDs.

I have used a few online calculators and they indicate that the PSU should be more than enough (I understand that the AX is a very good quality product as well), but I had also read that PSU components degrade over the life of the PC and lose about 8-10% of efficiency per year. I just want to make sure that I don't have to face a situation where I have to replace my PSU because it no longer puts out 860W, but say only 650W.

Any advice is welcome.

The PSU will be fine.

The 8-10% is utterly FUBR. Any component degrading on a high quality unit like that will be in the region of 0-2% in it's lifetime. Even the worse PSUs are unlikely to lose more than 5% performance in it's life time. If they were losing performance like that they be faulty and just fail well before hitting 10%.

I have the corsair Ax860. In fact I have two but the other is a backup/spare. I run a 5930k and a 1080ti so the watt usage should be somewhat comparable. The 5930k is overclocked. So in my gaming usage the most I have seen it draw is 520w peak.

I also have the 8700k and another 1080 ti but it going into an itx build. Tha Ax860 can fit in the itx case I am using but you lose a lot of space. I am hoping to getaway with something like the Corsair Sff 600w but I don't fancy running 500w+ on a 600w psu for my gaming sesions. And the silverstone units don't do it for me especially the fan/fan controller that is in them.

I am hoping corsair/seasonic/superflower will do something like a 700w itx psu.

But the one thing more than anything else why I use this psu over other psu (I actually like seasonic more) is the fan controller in this unit. It doesn't actually come on until roughly it about 60% load so for the most part it never ever comes on and when it does I don't hear it. It was the same situation with the AX850 I had before.
