ROFL I remember my first PSU the wonderful Qtec. But seriously that lasted me a good year and for £30 was not too bad but it didn't kill any other component... was I lucky? Got an Enermax now though considering the stuff I have now can't afford it to rape me from the rear and my PC :)

Had my Tagan 700W break on me.
Actually the on/off switch just fell off when I was doing some work inside the pc, impressed that this could actually happen lol!

Should have said what doing a Qtec is for newer members.

Sparks, flames, tripping the house, house insurance job that sort of thing. :D

Legendary units for the wrong reasons.

I've 'lost' a couple of Antec Smartpowers, a Hiper 580w, and a bargain-basement 'Allied' unit. One smartpower went bang as soon as power was connected to it for the first time, the other failed after a year or so of use, filling the room with the smell of burning capacitor. The Hiper failed randomly when the system it resided in was switched off. In all three cases, no harm caused to the rest of the components. The Allied, on the other hand, went with a bang and flash and killed every other component in the system, down to the CD drive!

Think that shows the worth of a decent quality unit with over-voltage protection etc. Even the Smartpowers and Hipers, which have a pretty high failure rate compared to other quality units, seem to - in general - die 'quietly'.

ive never bought any quality power supplies(to my knowledge) and plenty have died...they all passed away silently.

the last time i woke up one day to find the computer would only boot 1 out of about 10 times which was just weird.
