Basically I am doing an upgrade on my case and a few parts here and there. What I'm having trouble with is my PSU which is a Cooler Master GX650w. Will this PSU be strong enough to keep everything running including my GPU AND CPU (build in signature) or will I have to bite the bullet and buy a stronger one. I'm not very good with power usage and outputs so all advice is welcome.

What I'm buying:

Asus Maximus VII Hero Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard

Phanteks Enthoo Luxe Full Tower Case - Black

Kingston HyperX Fury Red 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-14900C10 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit (HX318C10FRK2/16)

Western Digital Caviar Red 3TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache WD30EFRX - OEM HDD

Kingston HyperX 3K SSD 120GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Drive (SH103S3B/120G) **Upgrade Bundle Kit**

6xPhanteks PH F140SP 140mm Fan Red LED - Black / White

Silverstone Cable Extension Value Bundle - Red

Akasa PWM fan splitter (AK-CBFA04-15)

So all upgrades including all the fans and ram won't be affected at all. (but your saying I should get a new one because of CM not great :) )
I thought the GTX980 draws 500w of power alone??

That power supply is made by Enhance Electronics - an average OEM to be honest.

The power supply easily has enough juice for your kit (52 amps on the 12v rail) so in simple terms, yes it will be sufficient.

However, when you're talking about a component that if it does let go in a big way is capable of taking out other components with it, is it really worth the risk? For the sake of £70-£80? That's up to you. If the unit is quite old I'd suggest the answer is no and stump up for a new one to protect your shiny's. If it is new then you may as well stick with it to be honest

Yep, Z87 supports devils canyon with a bios update. Could you please list your spec as I see your signature has been removed.

Main reason it's ATX not MATX and I like the look and also has more functionability then my current. Plus I'm selling my MATX to a friend who has a MATX case :)

Haha yeah didn't think it was important to mention that before.
So back on to the psu issue why do people buy 1000w+ to power a single 980ti or titan

Man those people are weirdos :p

For myself I got a RM850 on a sale for a 2500K + 680 build as I planned on going SLI. In the end I upgraded to a single 780 then a single titan. At which point the system drew about 50% under max load where the psu is most efficient plus all that headroom meant that the fan didn't even spin. PSU was sent back due to a unit recall and was replaced with a RM1000. Seems like I am one of those weirdos

Also some of the really good PSUs with massive warranties are only available at higher capacities. Or you find that getting an extra 100-200W costs only an extra £20 on a £120 purchase which is easy to justify.
