Hello there,

I am after a bit of help with regard to a PSU.

I am currently running a Antec 'Signature' 850w PSU. I have a 920 @4GHz, a 285, 4 Sata drives, 6 GB RAM and i am running 10 fan controlled 0.53 amp fans. I am in the process of putting together a water loop (CPU only) and will be running a 18w DDC.

My problem is thus, my brother has just bought a couple of 5870's and is offering me his unneeded 285 (too cheap to turn down).

Will my 'Siggy' run both 285's and a overclocked 920 + the rest of my system?

Output table

If the 'signature' is a little close to the limit, so to speak, then could anyone recommend me a very decent PSU with a long warranty, a rear PWM fan and a very high amp single 12v rail that will run my system comfortably. TBH i would prefer non modular, but i will succumb if there isn't a non modular available.

Thanks.

I think the Antec should cope in therory, can you find any in depth reviews to read about its stability at load, as it will be pumping out a fair bit of juice...

If its a bit close I would probably go with a 1kw corsair or simmilar.

Hmm, looks like a very good PSU according to reviews... I would be inclined to try it out and see how it fares, keeping a close eye out for stability issues, but make sure you balance the load out evenly on the +12v rails.

Here you go:

"NVIDIA™ SLI™-ready certified

It is SLi Certified for up to two NVIDIA GeForce GTX280 GPU's! "

from the 3rd review you posted.... so its still under warranty even if there were to be issues.

Might be worth checking Nvidia's SLI website to make sure its officialy certified.

just a FYI stock, your signature is the bit under all your posts, that lists your specs which you haven't got! :D

Aren't the 285's a less power hungry review of the 280?

Not sure - check up on that to be sure, but if its SLI certified for a 280 your pretty safe, as Nvidia have quite a safety margin before giving the certification - you will notice a lot of the PSU's on the cert list seem a lot better than what they are certified for, as they have to account for some mad users adding 20 HDDs and 16 fans etc. on top of the SLI.

For example I belive the corsair HX620 is only certified for 2x7800GTX, but people report it will run 2x8800GTX without issue.

On the Nvidia site the only PSU's they certify for dual 285's are;

Antec Quattro 1200 (1200W)

Channel Well C WT-1200VC

Channel Well C WT-1000VC

Cooler Master Real Power M1000 RS-A00-ESBA

Cooler Master Real Power Pro 1000W RS-A00-EMB

Corsair HX1000W

Enermax Galaxy DXX 1000 EGX1000EWL

FSP Booster X3 FSP300-1E01 300W

After checking around i am even more confused. Plenty of post's about saying even a good quality 750w unit will run 285's in SLI but then i come across this

SLI, TRI-SLI power draw

That's a lot if you factor in a 4GHz 920, right?

This was part of the reason for posting.

I have been unable to find a non modular, rear PWM fanned, high, single 12v railed unit with a long warranty other than a PC P & C 1200w offering which doesn't happen to be in stock anywhere, and where it is listed it is £300. Also 1200w seems a bit high for what i need.

Any idea's?...anyone?
