Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum so please bear with me.
First of all, here's the specs for the pc:
Intel i5 3570k
Asus P8Z77-V LX
8gb Corsair XMS3 ram
Corsair cx430 psu
Seagate Barracuda 1tb Hard Drive
LiteOn CD-R drive
The build went fine and the system has been running without any problems. Then after a couple weeks it restarted itself, and upon boot said that the anti-surge had been triggered because of an unstable power supply (which was weird because the system had only been idling). Ever since then I've been getting increasingly more alerts from the mobo software saying that the 5V rail is only putting out 4.2v which it classes as unsafe. I wasn't sure if this was correct as I had read elsewhere that the Asus software is a bit naff. I disabled the anti-surge protection, but it still restarted itself a couple times afterwards. (after which I re-enabled the anti-surge)
Today the system ran okay for about 10 minutes, then restarted and hasn't been able to boot since. The fans whir up but only for a second or two...then it restarts again.
I got a multimeter and tested the 24pin connector which confirmed that the 5v pins were only putting out 4.2v. All the other pins were fine except for the -12 vdc which was reading -9.4v.
Is this overall lack of voltage on the 5v rail consistent with the problems mentioned? I can't understand why a brand new Corsair PSU would be faulty like this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks
