Hi all,

I left a new PSU on a heater today thinking it was off and was in a rush. Came back 30mins later and it was red hot and smelt funny. Now its cooled down the smell has gone but is it safe to use do you think? :(

what sort of heater was it left on ?, wattage etc ?, was it set to full ?

PSU's can get quite hot somtimes and still function fine, knowing me I'd proberbly gamble it but not on my system, I'd short the pins out, turn the PSU on before plugging it in, then turn it on via the mains to be safe so I don't have to be touching the PSU when it turns on, just it case it goes BOOOOOOOOM.

you have your heating on this time of year?, its boiling!

measure ** heater temp? above 80 and it might be wrecked

How did you come to leave your PSU on top of a heater in the first place? I know if ihad my psu out and needed somewhere to put it down i would put it on the floor before putting it on my radiator...

No idea if it will be ok but if you need to check then do as lowrider says!

Anyway I tested it this morning and it seems fine. The supply has been in a pc now and on for around an hour now with no fire or explosion ;)
