Hi, I need some advice to know If I need better PSU or not.

I'm going to be running a
Athlon 64 3800+x2 duel Core.
One SATA Drive.
x2 IDE Drives.
x2 optcal drives.

My current PSU which I use for my athlon Xp3200 is this spec

+5v 40A
+12V 17A
+3.3V 28A
-12V 0.8A
-5V 0.3A

Do I need a better PSU?,. If so which one do I need that OCuk Sell.

Many Thanks

I wouldnt go under 500w and i would also go with a decent company who is well known for stablity.

Enermax liberty's
Tagan's
FSP's
Antec Neo HE's

These are all seriously good psu's with stable voltage rails and low noise.

I would not adivise the hiper, it has weak stability on the rails, fluctuates far too much for my liking.

And also dont be swayed by this modular bs, at the end of the day the removable cables are still plugged into the psu. :p

" the removable cables are still plugged into the psu "

If you mean the connections for the cables , then yes ,they are still "plugged" in to the PSU.

But as they are not drawing power from the PSU , How can this affect stability or performance ?

Cheers,

What he means is that people are buying PSUs because they have detachable cables and look nice, rather than buying PSUs that are reliable and stable, even though the first thing most people do on a PSU with detachable cables is attach all the cables :)
