My daughters psu has died, well as far as i can tell anyway, even with all non critical components disconnected, and a single ram stick, all i,m getting is the cpu,and gpu fans spinning momentarily, have also tried both hdd,s seperately(two 250 drives in pc,both with OS installed)though only one connected at a time other as a back-up really.
Right assuming it is the psu gone, what would be a good CHEAP replacement, don,t want to spend too much in case i,m wrong about the psu being shot,(the original is a seasonic 300 watt),
System specs below
3.6 p4
2gb pc3200 ram
2 250 gig hdd,s,though only one will be used,
dvd rom
dvd rewriter
x800xt gpu, using hdd molex splitter for extra power supply
fdd
firewire
6 usb
tv tuner card,w2ill more than likely not put6 this back as it is/will not be used
modem,no longer in the pc either
Thank you all.

That sounds more like a dead motherboard.

Got a spare you can test? Try resetting the CMOS before you do anything else though.

Or if you don't have a spare mobo you could try hitching the PSU up to another pc.

Thanks for the reply,my daughter also has an old celeron based pc that works,i,ll try booting it with the suspected duff psu tomorrow, have reset cmos(i think, lol),until then thanks again.
PS,hope its not the mobo/or cpu even.

Update, managed to scavenge an old 250 watt psu from a defunct machine at work, could not get the x800xt to work as the molexs seem very slightly different in shape, though the same size.
swapped it out for a spare x600xt(no extra power rqd)
The psu powered up straight off(nothing from the original by way of fan spinning)and the fan on the x600xt was spinning nicely. The cpu failed to spin,i think this is due to the "new" psu not having enough/the correct wiring outputs,IE,a connector that has 2 yellow/2 black wires with a plug on the that connects to the mobo.
If my assumptions are correct, and you guys agree, for the most part, can you recommend a reasonable/not too expensive psu that has all the correct outputs.....thank you.
I,d like to send some money overclockers way :)
PS,if my assumptions are wrong it would be no surprise to me.
http://www.directron.com/p4install.html Thats the connection i think is stopping the cpu from firing up,have to scroll down to see it,thanks again

CPU fans only spin when they are required. So, it will only spin when it heats up. Mine doesn't spin for about 2 minutes when I turn on my PC.

there is the ocuk branded huntket 450w at £33 no reviews on that but doubt ocuk would sell rubish. would imagine [postage take it nearer 40 as psu are heavy
Thank you for the reply, ordered the one you suggested,my daughter will be happier now(all this for the sims 2,lol),cheers.

And the pain continues :( Put in new psu,Still no go,when i boot with the 12v 4 pin connector plugged in.........nothing,leave it out,and the x800xt powers up a treat,so folks, mobo shot due to failed psu(original seasonic),or cpu woes, all and any help appreciated, thank you.
