Hi,

When I load up a game (Alan Wake for example) my PSU (OCZ CoreXtreme) makes a screeching noise which I'm guessing is coil whine but it only happens during the opening splash screen, in this case the 'Remedy' screen.

Anyone know what this issue is and whether I should send it back?

Thanks.

Can you try setting the Vsync to ON in the GFX card driver control panel? see if that helps.

Daft question, are you sure its the GPU and not the PSU, in certain games my gpu likes to be herd.

I'll give it a shot :).

Edit: Didn't help unfortunately :(.

I'm about 70% sure. The PSU is right next to the GPU so it's hard to isolate but it seemed louder next to the PSU. I'll remove the PSU from the case so it'll be easier to check.

Thanks.

It's definitely the PSU. It's coil whine due to the high FPS that I get in splash screens and also some cutscenes. Stulid's suggestion should work but for some reason splash screens and some cutscenes aren't limited by vSync so they usually run at aout 1,000-2,000 FPS :(.

its normal to hear it in game menus, but it shouldnt be heard in the game itself or through speakers and headphones,if it is then it needs rma or switch to another brand, can be power saving eist,c1e in the bios and can also be your graphic card
