PSU recommendation

Can't work out if it's my GPU or PSU that has failed me.
Computer boots fine and gets to OS, then after 5 minutes it cuts to a blank screen - the power supply fans etc. are still running. If I reset it at this point I get a blank screen with 1 long beep and 2 short (indicating graphics problem) and from that moment on the computer will not boot at all unless I rest it for 10 minutes. The last boot attempt the power supply lights flashed on for a second before cutting out almost instantly, and then nothing when I tried to boot again.

Apparently the CX Builder series are not as good as most Corsairs - I'm wondering if they are still better than the alternatives anyway...

Can anybody tell me what the "5 year limited warranty" on the XFX actually means?

All warranties are limited to some extent.

Can't find the XFX terms but this is Corsair's limited warranty which will give you an idea of why they are limited:

Corsair® Limited Warranty

I see, so basically just means there are some terms and conditions for the warranty - seems pretty standard, leaning towards the XFX at the moment unless somebody convinces me otherwise.

Apparently they are both built by seasonic, so quality should be the same, and for the sake of a fiver, i;d go for the 50W more powerful Corsair :)

(ive got the CX600 and it is GREAT :D )

Corsair builder CX is made by CWT and not Seasonic. Is that a bad thing? Well they are fine PSUs but just not as good as those that Corsair built their reputation on. It's quite clever really. Spend more using the best OEM for a few years and get good rep, then when no one is looking switch OEM to a cheaper one. The higher end Corsairs are still top notch though.

All that said though the CX are still decent enough for entry level rigs.

i still maintain that corsair and the most trouble-free and reliable of all psu's - whoever they are made by - corsair will have a set standard they make their products to :)
