Morning
Trying to test PSU and see if it outputs the right amount of power or another component is at fault
Is there a way to stress test it? say draw some via USB port or something crazy like that?

Doesn't allow me to run it, TMPIN5 overheat, as far as I am aware that value has very little to do with real life
Any workaround at all?
Cheers for the idea! :D

Found it in settings, unticked TMPIN5 and 8 as reading were either 127 or 0. stress test on PSU is stable
No GPU or CPU errors found either

while furmark is running I am looking at watt-o-meter, once it goes beyond 220W power draw, crash occurs
powertarget set to 0 solves the problem, power draw shows 140 while running furmark with no crash

Two cables powering GPU or one cable? Should be fine with one but would be interesting to see if there's any difference when spreading the load.

playing with power target a little, set at 75% which makes total draw from pc at around 212W
Everything is stable. Leaning more towards a busted PSU
As long as the card get enough Ws it performs well, once its overboard (220W draw) it crashes
Seems like I need a PSU to test the theory :D

2 cables powering the card. Remember running 6 RX580s with single cable in each one and they were fine
Just tested it out, on boot it actually says to plug in the power cable :D both required to run this beast

Now I'm confused. You didn't plug in one of the connectors? What I meant was are you using two distinct cables from the PSU, or one cable with two connectors?

Oh right, misunderstood that completely. Thought to try running it on a single 8 pin
Using a cable which has 2 8pins
You recon using 2 different cables might change the outcome?
Not sure if I have any spare lying around. Will go and see what loft has to offer :D

Yeah. Just as an experiment. It can improve performance by a notch and even make the GPU slightly less hot. As for stability they're pretty much a necessity with Vega cards for example. Not for 1070s but would be interesting to see anyway given what's going on.

Careful with using a cable from a different PSU though, I wouldn't risk it. Hope you meant in the Seasonic Focus box. :)

Same brand, same box ONLY! :D
Just ran a few more furmark rounds and determined that 96% power target is stable in every test which draws slightly less than 260W I think that's the maximum PSU can handle, anything after that mark and its a crash
Card is performing well once fed with more power, fps are going up so cant see how this can be a card unless its on some other level where simple minds don't matter :D

Tried 2 different PSUs, problem did not go away
Have stipped the card, replaced TIM and its gone. Makes very little sense wonder if the problem is going to come back
