PSU Problem?

Hi,

I cant quite remember what my PSU is rated at, but 450w would be a good bet. My asus_probe utility periodically reports big drops in the +3.3v line, sometimes as low as 2.8v. Its always when I'm playing games so I'm starting to wonder if my system (P4 3Ghz, Asus P4C800-E Delux, ATI 850, 2 x HDD, DVD, Video Editing card etc) is pulling just a little too much juice. Another hint towards a possible PSU problem is that my PC always runs very hot, so I'm also thinking that the PSU may be running near 100% all the time, something that I'm sure isn't very good for it!

The problem is that I've no idea how to monitor the PSU useage or even whether its possible. Therefore, if anyone out there agrees with my theory that the PSU may be being over utilised and therefore could be on its last legs, can any suggest a silent, powerful PSU that has monitoring capabilities? My system is an older Asus AGP board so I'm guessing should be ATX 2 compliant.

Advice very much welcome.

Matt

What is the brand of your PSU?? A decent 450W should be more than enough for your machine. I had a similar spec running on a FSP 350W with no probs.

Can't tell what make of PSU unless I take it out of the chassis. Think it was an Antek power unit, but all I can see is that its got a nice blue glow out the back and the majority of the PSU case is actually clear. Its got Active PFC but to be honest, it's only ever seemed to have one voume so I guess its on 100% all the time
