PSU problem?

I have just built a new rig, its an i7 on a Gigabyte motherboard, 2x4gb ram dual (or tri) memory, Nvidia 8400 graphics card and 450W PSU.

It won't boot up at all and I am wondering if that could be down to having an inadequate power supply unit? Would this be the most likely reason?
 
ye its proberly that is it a maked or un maked one? take out you g card and hdd dvd the lot. just power up with ram chip mobo see if it will turn on. check all plugs
 
Have removed all none essential hardware and still no go. The PSU is brand new and so shouldn't be the problem. The lights on the motherboard come on, but nothing else.
 
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R
RAM: 2x4Gb DDR3 PC3 10600 DIMM 240 pin Crucial.

Really can't figure this out now, have found an 800W PSU and it still doesn't boot/show any signal to the monitor. Puzzled.

Assuming that both PSUs were from a proper brand (not some cheap nasty rubbish) then the you need to start testing other bits.

Try a single stick of memory - and try different memory slots each time. Check all cables are in place (I know, grandma sucking eggs..) but even pro-builders make simple mistakes!

If still nothing works then it's probably a borked mobo.
 
If you haven't OC'd the processor the i7 should only be drawing 130W.
All the power connectors are attached correctly?
Does the power supply fan start?

Tried two different PSU's now and done as you said with the RAM and double checked the cables. I am pretty baffled as to what it could be now. The pc can turn on, and the two green lights, one orange light and one red light, light up and stay on. That's all it really does, no output to the monitor at all.


EDIT: Don't think it's psu related anymore as now have another psu connected. Have tried RAM in different slots, the power lights to everything, cpu fans all turn on, but still no signal. This couldn't be due to the graphics card could it?

do you hear a normal pc start up sound or different warning alarm?
if everything else is fine, I assume your graphics card is not giving signals out
 
Have all the audio power cables plugged in to the little speakers and no sound at all, just nothing, no signal from the pc to monitor at all.

The thing about the graphics card is, there isn't a direct output from the motherboard for their "integrated" graphics so bought a cheapo card to put into the pci slots which is fine.
 
i think you have the wrong memory thats why i asked ram and mobo spec. either that or its the psu even tho it is a 450 watt dont mean it really is. its like speakers you can get a million watt speakers but there not really if it says rms thats the true watt on speakers. just going off speakers in comparison
