PSU problem

Installed my new graphics card and PSU today. MSI 570 & OCZ Z 850w.

Everything is fine untill the PSU is put under heavy load. As soon as you get past menus and into a game it starts making a really loud screeching/grinding noise.

I'm guessing it's a fauly unit and it's got to go back. Thoughts?

i would return it, doesn't sound safe. There shouldn't be a problem since you just bought it.

Does the PSU make the noise with your system running prime?

Does the noise the change when you try different games, as my GPU sounds similar to this when folding.

Just run prime and there was no noise.

I'm guessing it GPU related then? The sound is definatley from the PSU though.

Just noticed that when scrolling up and down a web page it makes a slight noise too.

Coil whine caused by electrical resonance and vibration between the gpu and the PSU. I'd send the PSU back.

If they test it will it be the same with their parts?

Seems as though you aren't the only one getting that noise, I remembered reading about something very similar here but on a 1000W unit http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story5&reid=238

Could be a fault with the Z - ZX series?

it happens with certain cards and psu combinations

nobody can really predict it

It'll have to go back if it's not something which I can stop.

It's not just a quiet whine, I can hear it over medium volume headphones!

Hey, I've got this problem as well with my ZX 1250w I received yesterday, so I'm assuming its a commonly occurs with the OCZ ZX series. Mine's driving me mad as I'm really sensitive to noise so it's really penetrating when I'm gaming with headphones on as well!

Did you send it back in the end?

Yes I have had to sent it back, it was unbearably loud.

Do you think it's a bad batch or a problem elsewhere?

I've got the same problem, have sent a webnote to Overclockers, but after reading around it seems to be a common issue with this PSU, I'm hoping for a replacement as well but would not like it if the replacement PSU has the same problem

and afaik I think it's the product

Can you try this,

Go into the Nvidia control panel and force vsync ON.

then test again.

this is not good news, I was about to get one my self :S although I am running ATI at the minute but wish to move back to Nvidia.
I will watch this thread for updates
