Posted this in another thread but i got no response so here it is again....

Just wondering what sort of PSU power i would need to run a system such as:

e6600
256mb x850xt AGP
2gb XMS C2 ram
Sound Blaster X-fi fatality
120gb SATA hd
and 1 or 2 cd drives

i currently have a 380w one and i have a feeling that isnt going to be enough. i have ordered OCZ modstream 450W one though as that is within my budget but it occured to me that i didnt actually check if it was sufficient for me setup.....

The OCZ will most likely be enough. However, if I were buying this system or if I was recommending it to a friend, I'd spec something a little higher. Maybe something over 500w, e.g. Tagan 530W Modular.

If you choose not to change it, I would say that it should work ok. Are you looking to overclock?

bah i knew id make a goof somewhere :(

and no i dont plan on overclocking tbh as im getting the ASROCK 775DUAL-VSTA board which isnt renowned for its overclocking capabilities

i have a APC 1500i ups and with the monitoring software installed and it tells me my power consumption. i have a 700psu in mine but thats because i intend to get a large screen and the new ati monster card when it comes out in march time.

I would say a 450W+ (don't go for a cheap non branded one!)

If you wana check your system try this PSU Calculator
cheers for this mate :)

very nice link although im not so sure if its that accurate or not - i put my current spec in and it goes quite a bit over what my psu is

The calculator is very good - *but* it is a MAXIMUM power usage calculator - it presumes that everything is working flat out at full power... i.e. in 3D game with all hard disks working, CPU at 100% and optical drives going flat out.

Realistically.... that isnt going to happen - but overclocks and extra devices can draw extra power here and there, so a weak PSU will have problems when it nears 100% load.
My PSU is a 350 Watt in the Arctic cooling Silentium case, and it runs the rig in my sig fine
