Just phoned up OCUK for a PSU gave the below specks but was shocked to be told I would need a 600W PSU?

Guys I was looking to spend between £35 - £45 for a PSU

I know in the world of PSU that is not a lot but it has to be better the the hairdrier and radiator currently running my pc.

I have located 2 on MM both OCZ StealthXStream Silent Power Supply

One at 500W & the second at 600W

I know they are not the cream of the pick but hey money is tight and I have been surfing the forums for weeks reading up. I was informed that a decent 400W - 450W PSU would be fine for my system.

Please give me some advice as I am not thinking what the H*ll? Are the 2 above ok and are they of decent quality?

What system do you have? I'm running an overclocked Q6600, 8800GT and 8GB of 1Ghz DDR2 RAM on a 520Watt Coolermaster M520. I imagine that a 500Watt PSU would be sufficient.

I am running a Q6600(125W I think)
2 x 2 gig ddr2 6400 ram
1 x 4670 512mb GPU
1 x 500G sata 2 HD
1 x dvd burner/lightscribe rom
2 x 120mm case fans

You'd get away with a 450w but with little room for expansion and/or overclocking. Remember too, that not all PSUs are equal and some are more efficient at supplying the quoted wattage. If you use a generic or budget PSU, you could be spending more in the long run.

400-500w will do just fine....

but '£35-45' to spend is a bit less i think, i would got for 10pound more to get a decent PSU as i wouldnt want a rubbish PSU that couldnt support my pc..lol

Huddy, would you say that OCZ would not be worth it? I know the price new for them is some 20-25 more then I am paying so I suppore I just want to make sure its a decent quality PSU and ample for the role
