Would it be possible for me to use a 6 pin adapter with a 700watt psu which only has one 6+2 PCI-E cable. It's for an nvidia gtx 280 which requires a 6 pin cable and an 8 pin PC1-E cable.

It'sa cheap one. Alpine is the make. I took a risk last time on a 500watt power supply. Unfortunately, it wouldn't power up the motherboard, cpu and graphics card. I figured i need a 700watt. I don't mind paying extra for a gaming psu for the extra cables.

Spend the money on a decent psu!! £17 for a 700w psu says it all really. It's complete rubbish!! As a rough guide you should be looking at £10 per 100w for a decent psu. Stick to quality brands and read reviews. By reviews i mean proper reviews from dedicated hardware sites not so called user reviews where they plug it in and it works!!

The only model i found was the 450 vx Corsair Power Supply. I'd have to use a power adapter with the 450W VX Corsair Power Supply. The listing doesn't specify what power cable i'd need either.

I just looked on the overclockers main page and didn't find a 450W Corsair Power Supply. There's probably a few on there but i couldn't find it through the search engine.

You could use something from the Corsair Builder Series
