PSU question

I am trying to upgrade my gran-dads PC.. He`s got this cheap PSU, I would buy new one, but prices are stupid here, 500W branded PSU for 70 quid is an overkill for me.

Does he have a graphics card, because you can get away with a cheap PSU if he doesnt. Also I think 450W may be enough? So something like this:

That PSU in the OP is probably adequate for a basic system without discrete PSU. It's even marketed as such in the blurb. There is a review out there for another Sinan PSU that failed to provide power within spec beyond 50% load on pretty much any of the rails. I wouldn't use it in a gaming rig but a system just running basic tasks it's probably fine. If the PSU is that unstable then the system will just crash. Of course there's always the risk that it'll fail and take the system with it.

Well I paid 111 pounds for G540, Asus Sata 2 H61 mobo, 4gb of Kingston Hyperx ram and Lite on dvd drive... I guess not much of rip off?

I know the english is particularly ropey, but the pics explain part of the reason chinese PSUs get hammered on forums such as this.
And that York based wholesaler is certainly not a sensible place to go for pc parts.
