Hey guys,

To cut a very long story short, I was having endless troubles with my PC which now point almost undoubtedly towards my PSU being dead. Very disappointed as it's supposedly a very high quality unit - the Antec Quattro 850W.

The biggest issue I have is that I bought the item second hand, from somebody who purchased it from OCuk. I have the receipt but it's over 1 year old. It has 5 years' manufacturers' warranty so in theory I should be covered, but as I am the second owner what is my position?

Whether or not they will replace my unit, I'm going to buy an alternative in the meantime. I want a PSU that is powerful enough to do Crossfire (just bought a cheap X48), and be powerful enough to be quite "future proof". So much that it can Crossfire two top-end cards in the future if I wish to.

I want to buy one known to be reliable, quiet and with good warranty. And also spend as little as possible.

Anyone got any recommendations? :)

I think you should be ok with getting it replced through Antec. Have'nt a clue where you will have to send it though.

As for a replacement, you can't go wrong with one of the Zalman heatpipe psu's. My 750w is the best psu i have ever owned.

Generally Corsair, Enermax, Zalman and Be Quiet are all decent PSUs.

You should have no problem getting your Antec RMA'd.

Cheers! :D

Regarding the RMA - will it matter that on the invoice it is neither my name or address? Would really appreciate hearing from someone who has been in the same situation. ;)

Regarding the RMA - If you call the OcUK support line they can probably answer that question. Should not be any problem, even if you're the second owner of that piece.
But if you're about to send it to Antec, they wont have your name or your address anyway. So you'll probably have to provide them with that.

I've had some problems the last week with my machine. Got an RMA number, but they stated in the email confirmation, which I received, that they were about to send it to my old address. I simply just sent them a written form from the home page saying that I wanted it to be sent to another address. (https://www.overclockers.co.uk/webnote.php)

I hope this will help you :)
Cheers,

Thanks for recommendation pastymuncher. :)

I was just checking out the TWO deals, and noticed this one:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-030-OC&groupid=701&catid=701&subcat=

It seems a bargain at that price, but is it actually any good?

Also, is 700W enough? I would suspect that I'd need more for near-future top-end Crossfire...

No on the OCZ. Spend the extra and get this:

It will handle your Xfire needs in the future, no sweat.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...name=Corsair TX 750W ATX2.2 SLI Compliant PSU

Or if you want the best in the 750W bracket this. (Actually rated to 825W), and will kick out 750W continuous at 40 degrees.

I think you can even go for less than 700w. As I have a Corsair TX 650w, I would recommend that one. Though, the Corsair TX 750w is on TWOF. And will cost you the same as the 650w.

Would 700W be enough? Say, for 2 x 4870x2s.

Will bare in mind your recommendations, what's wrong with the OcZ though?

There's nothing hugely wrong with that particular model.

People just have an issue with OCZ in general since they don't seem all that fussed about producing genuinely good power supplies. Even after having bought out PC Power & Cooling they still commission and produce toss like the ModXStream series which got ripped apart by the HardOCP guys.

Argh!

Just phoned OCuk and they confirmed my worries - the warranty of Antec products is not transferable! :(

Not suggesting I would do this, but hypothetically speaking would Antec know if I claimed to be the person who bought it orginally? The change of address is easy enough to explain, but would they contact the original address or phone number on the invoice?
