Hi,

I currently have a Corsair HX520W psu thats about 3/4 years old i guess and it doesnt have the 8 pin atx connector and only a 4 pin one. I have been searching and keep seeing conflicting results regarding new psu time or get a 8pin to 4 pin converter cable. My spec will soon be 2500k to go with my nvidia 460 graphics card and usual other kit.

I was wiondering if the convert cable will be ok for now until i decide to upgrade the graphics card.

Yes it will, it will allow the cable to fit, however it wont provide as much power as a true 8 pin connector, as such you may not be able to get as good an OC as you like/would be able to with more modern PSU

Unless it has an odd power overload limit an adaptor is perfectly fine.

The extra 4 pins are just duplicates of the first 4. They should allow a maximum of 75 w through each group of 4 pins.

One side of pins are ground the other side are +12 volts. That's it, really simple. :)

If the PSU can output 150 W (12.5 A) on that +12 V line then it will work. (I'm pretty sure it can)
