PSU - Really that important?? Really!?

I would avoid those new Corsair Builder PSU's. They are seriously underspecced, not very efficient (heck not even 80Plus!) and its really only a 408W PSU as it can only deliver 408W on its 12V rail. Warranty is also poor at 2 years.

:( I've ordered one of these for my Dad's build. The thing is its got to be a lot better than the cheapo no name PSU the likes of the big PC manufacturers put in PC's for shops & offices around the world. I took a peek in the build dad has got now & its a 'bestec' 300w :o & this is in a base unit bought from a certain high street retailer. I'm surprised its lasted as long as it has TBH & I popped a dual core CPU in it too. Its quite quiet too which is surprising. Most of these said PSU's make more noise than Concorde.

I'm just hoping this CX430 is going to be quiet, reliable & more efficient than these no-name PSU's. Having said that I bought the CX430 off the back of the after sales service I got from Corsair after my old HX520 went pop after 3 years :(. It not as though its going to be stressed at all the build is

E5200.
Mobo with onboard graphics
1 HD & W7
2 optical
& 3 fans
just for office & email, wont be overclocked.

The new CX PSU's are by no means generic, they are just far from good and overrated by about 100w.

When people say good PSUs are key to a computer, they really mean it. Rubbish cheap PSUs have poor quality components which in turn run hotter and are less efficient than their expensive counterparts.

Another thing to add, just because your generic PSU seems to be running your rig fine, that doesn't mean it's not slowly killing your components due to out of ATX spec ripple suppression and voltage regulation. If something (like a Motherboard) randomly dies months or even years down the line, the PSU can be the culprit. :)

So it would be more than able to power a PC for basic office tasks & internet surfing or a HTPC. I for one wouldn't buy one for a gaming rig that's for certain.

I once had 600w cit psu running my rig it ran hot and it killed 2 hdd, big mistake. Purchased a Corsair HX750 well worth the lay out for more expensive psu.

never skimp on power supply or you will regret it
