PSU Recommendation - 600-650W - decent manuf. support a must

I've had a chain of poor experiences with PSUs - in the last 5-6 years I've had

a Coolermaster (got noisier and noiser until I gave-up - it's in a drawer for emergencies only)
Corsair 450M (first one was replaced when fan failed - second had noisy fan from 'new' but they wouldn't replace until it failed which it did after the overall warranty was out - 2.5 years from 'new')

Finally I caved and threw money at a BeQuiet Pure Power 11 but at 20 months old the fan is clicking/ticking louder every day and whilst they'll 'warranty' it I have to return it to Germany (it will cost me £15-20 just to post it - they could easily demand that to return it - not worth the effort)

So....

I need a 600-650W power supply - Mobo/CPU, single 8pin GPU, single SATA is all I need - quiet-as-possible - actual proper support available in the UK would be nice!!!

Not touching the above brands obvs - I'm looking at the Seasonic CORE line but there's almost no reviews/information about them which worries me a bit

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Not a brand I've used but a quick search shows some decent reviews - although the first one I read pointed me to the Corsair RM650X as 'quieter' and I like quiet (but not Corsair so much) - thanks for the idea!!
Corsair rm and rmx is my go to recommendation the are solid units but your not a fan. The phantecs also has a 10 year warranty.

Goid luck whichever you decide.

Seasonic Prime 650W, 12 years warranty, currently on offer.

Buy cheap and buy twice, or just buy this once.

I read somewhere that prime units do experience tripping issues with high transient power draw GPUs like AMD Vega, 6900 XT and nVidia RTX3080 / 3080 Ti / 3090. I dont think the Focus has those issues & the 750W version is on offer right now. 10 year warranty isnt too shabby either. I've never had a noisy Seasonic PSU in the years I've owned them. The Semi passive button should help with noise.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £100.49 (includes shipping: £10.50)

Core is at most mid level serie with costs cuts here and there (one of those being cheaper fan) along with just seven year warranty.

As nice as it sounds, I tend to ignore long warranties because in my experience you don't really claim beyond the 2-3 year point because it's never a 'free' fix.

Within the 2 years you can hold a retailer responsible but beyond that the manuf. can impose any rules they like - this BeQuiet has to be sent back Germany (at my cost) just for them to evaluate if it's a warrantable repair!
I'm 99.9999% certain it's the fan (as slowing it changes/stops the noise) but it's not present 100% of the time so they could just power-it-up and declare it to be fine and I'm out a PSU or 2 lots of international postage - not ideal is it?

If this PSU were 5 years old I'd not waste the postage - if it were a £150 1000W effort I might think different but a £70-80 PSU has done it's work in 2-3 years - I could just throw-in a new fan tbh - I might even still do that - we'll see!

By way of an update, a friend is lending me a Corsair RM 650X (I think he said it's one of those anyway) - this means I can return or test-and-fix the BeQuiet one AND I get to see if it's quiet enough

It's already had over a year in a gaming PC so I reckon there will be noises and rattles - we'll see tomorrow tho

Thanks for the replies and info - super helpful!

Update 2: RM 650X is installed and - erm - I'm a bit glad I didn't buy it - will be looking again at above recommendations if the BeQuiet isn't repaired!

It's silent - which is a surprise and very nice - but the way Corsair design their modular cables is terrible.

Every modular cable ends (peripheral end) with a 2-3" wrapped-up/flex protected segment about 1" from the plug which makes 'from the back to the board' connections really hard
You have to bend the cable at 90/180 degrees RIGHT at the connector and then route that 2-3" 'solid section' to "somewhere" - makes you wonder if they tried installing this on an actual PC...

No-one actually has cable going straight-up from the motherboard do they? I have 'upfacing' GPU PCIEs (why do they do that!?) and it was a fight just to stop Corsair's cable hitting the case lid - I don't like the nasty bend it had to take to avoid that and the CPU connector is similar

The BeQuiet used WAY better cabling - and I learned to check that before buying a PSU so not all is lost!!

Corsair and Seasonic have capacitors in them to smooth out voltage ripples due to high switching frequencies.

there are PSU out there don’t have this. Be quiet is probably the prominent one that doesn’t do this.

Fractal ion+ are similar to be quiet - flexible cable no capacitor. Fractal units are highly regarded also.

phanteks/MSI and other brands are Seasonic OEM so they have the exact same thing. I have phanteks in my computer. It’s cables are very rigid and difficult to get into the atx connector etc.

As already mentioned just buy a Seasonic, it's job done and you don't worry about the PSU again, personally I would still get one of the Primes. Just purchase one once OCUK have an offer on one.

Corsair and Seasonic have capacitors in them to smooth out voltage ripples due to high switching frequencies.

My older Seasonic's used in-line capacitors in the cable, however I have a new Seasonic Titanium Prime that has the capacitors inside the PSU.

i'll second the seasonic recommendation, Super Flower is another that has a very good reputation. I used to be a huge fan of PC Power & Cooling PSUs, but i'm not sure what they are like these days, they went away from some of the designs i liked, and as things moved on i don't know how they stack up now, their Turbo Cool 860's used to be bullet proof, but no modular cabling.

As for your Be-Quiet, i'm surprised by this, as these are usually pretty reliable, especially in the fan department - if you do replace it, i'd probably sell it as spares or repair, at least you'll get something back from it.

I have the Corsair RMx 1000W and the cables are terrible, I ended up putting extensions on them to make connection easy and not look like ****.

Pretty happy with the 750w gold Corsair I picked up last year.

Finally I caved and threw money at a BeQuiet Pure Power 11 but at 20 months old the fan is clicking/ticking louder every day

The BeQuiet Pure Power 11 I had started ticking after 2 years. I took it apart and squirted it down with WD40. Its been fine again for the last 4 months running 24/7.
