It is not actually made by MSI, the OEM is CWT. You'll find that many of the PSUs available now are on the same or a similar platform. I know NZXT, Corsair and Thermaltake are using them for many of their newer PSUs.

The OEM whose platform the MPG A1000G PCIE5 is based upon is Channel-Well Technologies, or CWT. CWT is a popular OEM for mid-to-high performance PSUs and they also are the OEM behind MSI’s flagship MEG series. The MPG A1000G PCIE5 is based on a different platform than that used for the MEG series, which seems to be an upgraded version of one of the CWT’s most popular platforms. This platform has been the heart of many units having a similar power output over the past few years.

A couple of recent Enermax reviews:

By a "bit old", what do you mean? Many PSUs have a 10 year warranty (or even longer), so if you have a decent one and it is working fine, there's no desperate need to replace it..

Hmm not sure when i bought it,might have to look if i can dig out the reciept.does work fine currently.

What brands are stil lworth going with. Corsair? Asus seems to have a lot of PSU about albeit ridiculously expensive, but with the current reputation in the MB market, not sure how/if affects the other products they sell

I wouldn't buy based on brand, everyone has junk PSUs. The Asus TUF ones are on offer at OCUK at the moment, worth considering:

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £103.94 (includes delivery: £3.99)

There's a review here:

yeah i was looking for a 1kw PSU.. seems 850 will be tight if i were to upgrade when the new x3d chips land with a possible 5080.. according to PSU calculator... since a 7900x3d and a 4090 outputs around 823w together with the peripherals/fans/pumps etc

There is a PSU tier list floating around, given its not been updated in a minute, after being out of the loop for a very long time I found it useful as a reference point
Used it to make a short list and then just looked into the ones I picked out (as well as posts here)
My first choice would have been superflower if not for the lack of stock.. like they sell them here but the few left are overkill so went with a seasonic gold

I have the HX1500i, running fine for 2 years, I run it with a 5950X with two 4090s.

Very quiet, so I recommend its little brother the HX1000i or HX1200i. Bit pricey, but I do not ever skimp out on PSU's.

The HX1500i is often no dearer than its lower powered siblings based on when I last purchased a couple of months back (£255). I've now got three of them and replaced several Seasonic Prime TX PSUs (1000/1300W) which have been less than stellar with failures and odd issues such as wake from sleep.

I used to be concerned about over specifying PSUs as it impacts efficiency on lower loads but these days having a bigger margin seems a good plan for longevity, coil whine and noise.
